#AEOSTYLE Challenge: Shortalls

We made the iconic throwback shortalls cool again this summer. Shortalls are the perfect piece for music festivals, a cover-up from beach to street or just hanging out.

We asked two bloggers, Marsa from The DayLee Journal and Ashley from Twenties Girl Style to style our Denim Shortall. The girls each styled the piece a completely different way, so you have inspiration for both warmer summer days and cooler spring nights.

Marsa from The DayLee Journal in our Denim Shortall.

Meet Marsa:
The DayLee Journal is a lifestyle blog about my day to day happenings. It started right after I got married, as a way for us to keep family and friends updated with our new life together, but soon after, the blog began to take a turn. Instead of just cheesy photos of the hubs and I, I started documenting my daily outfits from time to time. And thus, The DayLee Journal was born: a lifestyle blog with doses of personal style.

Marsa styled our Denim Shortall for a casual day out.

What Inspired Marsa’s Look:
I want to talk about these Shortalls! They’re comin’ back! Besides the fact that they’re obviously super cute, they’re also amazingly comfortable. Denim and oxblood are one of my favorite combos, so I wore these with a simple white tee, threw on the slouchy oxblood cardigan for some basic layering and topped it off with a wide brim hat. Simple, but a favorite for a casual day out.

Ashley Mickey Twenties Girl Style Shortalls American Eagle Outfitters Spring 2014

Ashley from Twenties Girl Style in our Denim Shortall.

Meet Ashley:
I am a clothes hoarder and fashion obsessed, a book worm and an elementary teacher. I created Twenties Girl Style as a personal style diary to showcase (you guessed it) my personal style. Although I am a twenty-something, Twenties Girl Style isn’t just about being in your twenties, but rather embracing your style, no matter the trend. It’s about being trendy, care free and effortless, so no matter your age, you can definitely be a twenties girl!

We can’t get enough of Ashley’s boho look with our Denim Shortall.

What Inspired Ashley’s Look:
I am obsessed with overalls/shortalls at the moment! Since receiving the Denim Shortall, I have worn them at least 10 different ways and I love how versatile they are. One of my favorite ways to wear these is with a more feminine flowy blouse and heeled booties. I love the laid back feel of the overalls but by adding this sheer off-the-shoulder top, it gives it a girly feel perfect for date night or a music festival! Every girl needs a pair of shortalls in her closet!

Designer Interview: Tamarah Ghourdjian

Bright, bold and colorful prints grab our attention every season. This season’s print… Global!  We wanted the inside scoop on what influences our design team to create these fun and trendy prints, so we caught up with our Senior Director of Women’s Concept, Tamarah to learn what things and places sparked her team to conceive this season’s collection.

Name:
Tamarah Ghourdjian

Occupation:
Senior Director of Women’s Concept

alt="designer in work space"

Tamarah in our New York Design Office concept work space

Where did you draw inspiration for the global prints?
We pulled inspiration from everywhere — Vintage [finds], traveling the world, blogs, books, paintings and more!

Can you tell us how you wear the global print trend?
I wear our black and white print mix jumpsuit with a military jacket.

What are your three favorite global print pieces from this season’s collection?
I love the black and white floral jumpsuit, the tropical romper and the black and white zig-zag soft shorts.

If you were to share what global print piece that every girl must have in her closet right now, what would it be?
My favorite is a jumpsuit or romper, whether it be an ethnic print or tropical. Both are on trend this season.

A few skateboards that our design team had printed with some of our global prints for Spring 2014.

How cool, right?

Now we would love to learn a little about you!

What made you want to pursue fashion design?
I grew up in a crafty family. My mother and grandmother taught me to sew, knit, dye fabrics, make jewelry, weave—you name it, they can do it all.  I started making clothes at a very young age, first for my dolls, and then later for myself and my friends.  As far as I can remember it’s always been a part of my life and I can’t think of anything else that I’d rather be doing.

What kinds of projects do you find yourself working on from day to day?
Everything and anything — No one day is the same, but research is always part of my day.  I am always looking for new inspiration; a new brand, [fashion] blogs, [street] style, silhouettes, boutique finds, prints or a color that inspires me.

What three items will we always find in your purse?
Chapstick.
A hair tie.
My passport.

What inspires your style and how would you describe it?
Anything vintage, authentic, lived-in and casual inspires my style.
You could say it’s boy meets vintage girl or somewhere in between.
