Meet Rachel C., Assistant Women’s Denim Designer at our New York Design Office. Learn more about one of the talented designers behind your favorite jean fits!
What do you look for in a good pair of jeans?
For me denim is all about fit and wash, I want a pair of jeans that look great and feel great.
How did you find your passion for designing denim?
Art is part of who I am. It was always been a part of my life in some form. Fashion was just another outlet but most certainly my favorite. Something just clicks when I’m designing, it’s hard to explain, but it’s what I’m supposed to be doing. Denim has always been a huge part of my wardrobe. I live in jeans and a tee, so it is no wonder I ended up designing denim.
How did you get your start with AE?
I started almost a year ago, a couple months after I graduated. It’s been an amazing experience so far and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Where do you find inspiration for designing denim?
I love gathering inspiration, because inspiration can come from anywhere. I find a lot of my inspiration online from blogs, flipping through magazines, visiting art museums and listening to music.
What is your favorite AE denim fit?
I love our hi-rise jegging!
There are so many washes to choose from in denim. What’s your favorite and why?
That’s a hard question, because there are so many to choose from. I guess it would depend on my mood and outfit. But if I had to choose my favorite it would be a classic vintage inspired wash. Something that has a lot of character to it, some great destroy.
How do you style your favorite jeans?
Normally I do a messy roll at the bottom and pair them with a black bootie and a t-shirt. I layer on some jewelry and I’m good to go. My style is pretty laid back and bohemian. I like to be comfortable but pulled together.
What’s currently playing on your iPod?
I’m hooked to Lana Del Ray right now. But I also have Santigold, Matt and Kim, and Florence and the Machine playing on repeat too.
What’s next on your “life to do” list?
Get married! My finance and I just set the date for next September.
What do you think the next big denim trend will be?
I think there are a lot of exciting new things happening in the denim world. I’m really excited about what the future holds but don’t want to give anything away.
