“Soul is everything to me,” actor and musician Tim Johnson Jr. told us when he joined the AExME Council last year. And with the release of his new EP, Soul Conscience, that soul is on full display. Written and produced by Tim and his father, the album is now available wherever you listen to music, including Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube.

Read on for a behind-the-scenes look at how Soul Conscience came together!

Q: What was the inspiration for Soul Conscience?

It’s funny, when I was in the writing and recording process with these songs, at first I didn’t know it would be for an EP, because this year I’d already come out with an album called Summer Sessions. But my dad (who is also my producer) was like, “These songs – this can be an EP.”  These were songs that came out of conversations and thoughts about the importance of being aware of yourself and the world around you. Understanding we are all souls searching for our purpose in life.

Q: What’s your favorite song on the EP?

My favorite song on the project is “No More Loneliness.” It’s my favorite because it’s a song of empowerment and faith, understanding that you don’t have to walk alone. My whole family is singing on the song with me, so that makes it even more special.

Q: How did you get started in music?

I started singing when I was very young. There was just something so freeing about it. I remember always hearing music, from being in church to listening to our Motown CDs in the car. My dad was in a gospel group and had a recording studio in our basement. My parents heard me sing in the car one day, and asked me what song I was singing and I told them that I made up the song. From then on, I’ve been recording in the studio.

Q: What are you listening to these days?

My favorite song right now is “Lights Up” by Harry Styles. Since the day it came out, I’ve had it on repeat.

How To Make 2020 Your Year

AE New Year

As another holiday season comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking ahead. What does the new year have in store for you, and more importantly, what do you have planned for it?

Forget resolutions that make you feel bad about yourself. This year is all about living your best life! What are the goals you can set that will really inspire and empower you in 2020?

Here are a few helpful steps you can take to help find your way there.

There’s something about putting your dreams down on paper that makes them real. Make time for yourself to list, sketch, and brainstorm what you really want from the year ahead. Give yourself a place to be bold and free, even if it’s just in a notebook for now.

Check in with yourself to figure out what you really need. It could be a heavy dose of chill, some serious focus, a little energy boost, or even just a good night’s sleep. Whatever it is, set yourself up for success by adding the right MOOD CBD-infused wellness into your daily routine. A little lip balm or hand cream can go a long way in helping you feel less stressed.

If there’s one thing universally proven to make you feel good, it’s getting active. That doesn’t have to mean signing up for spin class or hitting the gym – it could just mean being comfy enough to have an impromptu dance party with your bestie, or taking a 10-minute walk at lunch. Whatever “active” means for you, the “right” gear means that if you want to break a sweat, you can do it without sweating your look… or a change of clothes. Shop TACKMA TECH for her & him for gear that keeps up with your daily hustle.

New Year’s Eve Outfit Inspiration

When it comes to celebrating New Year’s Eve, there are two verrrry different schools of thought: go all out or just stay in. Honestly, we’re here for both. Whether you’re putting together a glam look for a major night out or cozying up to snuggle on the couch, you should spend the last night of 2019 wearing something that makes you feel amazing. Here’s a little inspo to either get you in the party spirit or dialed into chill mode.

Go All Out

Look 1: When it comes to festive feels, velvet crushes the game. This wrap-style mini is party perfection with a super-soft cropped sweater and booties. A few animal print accessories pull it all together.

Look 2: NYE is the perfect occasion for a little bit of drama. This pleated-midi skirt makes a statement on its own, but paired with sherpa and a little shine, it’s a real show-stopper.

Just Stay In

Look 1: Just because you’re staying in, doesn’t mean you can’t go all out on your look. Sweatpants are a must, but this sherpa hoodie takes the cozy factor WAY up. Fuzzy slides and a colorful beanie keep with the theme while adding a major pop of personality.

Look 2: For a low-key hang with your friends, your everyday jeans and hoodie look can’t miss. Soft textures make everything cozier, and a cute scrunchie will come in handy on your wrist or in your hair.

No Plans Yet?

Since the holidays (and the weather!) can be unpredictable, you might want to keep your options open and be ready for both scenarios. In that case, here are two key tips to help you prepare your closet for anything from a solo movie marathon to a crowded dance floor:

  • You can’t go wrong with sherpa (no matter where you’re actually going). Not only does it look as good as it feels, it is THE trend this season.
  • Accessories are everything. Easily dress up your go-to jeans with something sparkly or a splash of animal print. If you end up leaving the party early, some fluffy pool slides and a classic beanie will tone down your glam without sacrificing any style points.

AE x Delivering Good

This holiday season we’re partnering with Delivering Good to help YOU take action against something that affects 1 in 10 young people, ages 18-25: homelessness.

You can donate to Delivering Good during checkout and you can shop an exclusive collection designed by the AExME Council in partnership with Delivering Good – 100% of sales will go directly to helping homeless youth near you!

Wanna learn more about Delivering Good? Us, too. So we asked Delivering Good’s President and CEO, Lisa D. Gurwitch, a few questions about the nonprofit, which has donated more than $2 billion worth of new products to individuals in need since 1985.

Delivering Good’s President and CEO, Lisa D. GurwitchQ: What does Delivering Good do?

First and foremost, Delivering Good provides a sense of hope, dignity, and self-esteem to people experiencing challenging times. In today’s world, businesses believe it’s their responsibility to support their local communities, and Delivering Good serves as the link between brands and a network of community nonprofit partners with which we work, to provide brand-new items to families, children, and individuals affected by poverty and natural disaster.

Q: What’s your role at Delivering Good?

I am the President and CEO of Delivering Good, but more importantly, I am an individual who feels it is important to serve others and to meet unmet needs. As the CEO of a nonprofit, I have the privilege of working with some of the best and brightest thought leaders across a variety of industries. I am constantly inspired by the people with whom I work – from board members, partners, my staff, and the agencies we support. And at the end of the day, when I can connect with a mother who needs a new backpack for her child or offer a hug and a blanket to a great-grandma who lost everything in a hurricane, I am simply a friend.

Q: How have AEO and Delivering Good made a difference together?

Together, we have provided over 70,000 brand-new hats and other new product including accessories and gift boxes to young adults across the country.

Q: How do poverty and tragedy affect young people in America today?

Every young person deserves to feel loved, appreciated, and worthy. Every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed. Every young person deserves to be supported through tough times.

Q: What are some things we can do to help homeless youth in our own communities?

The Department of Justice estimates that every year, over 1.7 million teens experience homelessness in the US – 1.7 MILLION! The need is great, and as you can imagine, the opportunities to help are great! I encourage everyone to research local nonprofits that serve this demographic and volunteer their time as mentors, facilitators, or friends. Many nonprofits operate very lean teams, so financial donations are the best way to support in a very simple and effective way. And of course, donating to Delivering Good! For every $10 we receive, we are able to distribute $100 worth of brand-new products to people in need – so you know that your contribution will go a long way when you work with us!
