Memorial Day Outfits For The Long Weekend

This weekend, we’re finally diving into summer: the sun is out, the temps are rising & it’s the first long weekend of the season! Whether your plans include lounging at the beach, exploring your city or consuming insane amounts of guac and chips at that backyard picnic (our preference!), your #AEOSTYLE needs to be on point this Memorial Day. Keep scrolling to see our take on Memorial Day 2016 style.

GIRLS: If you were waiting to bring the white hues out of hiding after a long hiatus, now is your time. We’re all for breaking the mold & wearing white after Labor Day, but if you’re one to play by the rules we highly encourage a clean, white-inspired Memorial Day Weekend outfit. Start with a white jegging or a pair of hi-rise shorties, and add a crisp button down on top. Keep a muted “Americana” feel with a touch of blue in your shirt or accessories. Add a boater hat and strappy sandals to complete the look.

GUYS: Subtlety call out to the national holiday in your outfit with a cool, relaxed indigo pattern shirt and bright white jeans. Because the shirt is not over-the-top blue, this look feels casual and cool, and it will take you from your Memorial Day party to a night out with friends to keep the celebration going. Finish off the look with a slip on shoe, like a canvas espadrille, for a coastal feel.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

Hola from Tulum, Mexico, where the ocean water is crystal clear, the sun is always shining and the food is amazing! After a quick plane ride, we landed in paradise, and Raphael, Fanny and I couldn’t wait to explore Tulum.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary We stayed at Papaya Playa Project, a tropical themed hotel where each room was decorated uniquely with straw rooftops and its own personal space away from other guests. Rather than a typical resort where there are people everywhere you go, picture a place tucked away in a lush jungle just a hundred feet away from the ocean with nothing but the sound of the waves and a light breeze; a place where you can get away and be at peace with nature but still have great company when you need it.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

We dropped our bags off in our room and grabbed dinner at the hotel restaurant. I cannot begin to tell you just how amazing the seafood was! To be honest, everything tasted amazing in Tulum! The food was fresh and had unique flavors unlike anything else. After a decadent dessert, we called it a night to get ready for the upcoming day.

We enjoyed breakfast and the beautiful scenery right at our hotel, taking advantage of the hammocks on the beach. The ocean front was decorated with hundreds of twisted palm trees, colorful cabanas and even some iguanas. Surrounded by palm trees, we couldn’t resist getting a few fresh coconuts and taking a dip in one of the pools.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

After our swim, we headed to Gran Cenote which is an underwater cave. Tulum has over two hundred underwater caves. The caves are great for snorkeling and swimming, but we decided to just dip our feet in and enjoy the landscape.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

Next up on our list was lunch at Posada Margherita. This place was located right on the beach and had quite a few beach chairs for relaxing in while you enjoy an appetizer or a cold drink. Once we filled up our stomachs with delicious food, we explored the area and found a cool little rooftop that overlooked the beach and had amazing views.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

One of my favorite things about Tulum was all of the shopping right along the beach. We browsed the shops and ended up renting bicycles to get around town. After a long first day we decided to grab a quick dinner at Mateo’s Mexican Grill before getting some sleep for our next day of adventures.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

The next morning, we headed to the city after breakfast and checked out some unique architecture scattered throughout downtown Tulum. One of my favorite things about this place is the beautiful things around each corner, which makes exploring another country feel exciting. After some fun in town, we headed back to our hotel to relax and take advantage of the day beds and swing set right on the beach.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary We couldn’t leave Tulum without exploring the ocean, so we rented snorkeling gear and went for a dip. We wrapped up the day by watching the sunset and having dinner at Tabano. Worn out from a long day we went to our rooms to catch a great night’s sleep before heading home the next day.

AEO Tulum Travel Diary

Tulum, Mexico is destination I highly recommend. It’s full of tranquility and peace and is a place where you can relax one day then explore the surrounding beauty on another. If you could spend a week or even just a few days in Tulum, who would you bring with you? Let us know in the comments below!

Graduate in #AEOSTYLE

Congratulations, Class of 2016! You made it. It’s your time to graduate, and we’re going to show you how to do it in #AEOSTYLE. Sure, you’re going to wear a cap and gown for the majority of your ceremony, but you need a graduation outfit to show off when it’s time to capture the moment on Instagram after! The key to a perfect graduation outfit is to keep the look simple, modern & classy. Stick to shades of white, blue, black, grey and tan, since your cap and gown will be school colors. Girls – we recommend a casual heel for the ceremony, since you’ll be doing a lot of walking; a strappy wedge is our shoe of choice since it’ll give you the support you need to avoid tripping on stage! And guys – no sneakers allowed. Keep scrolling down, and get ready to graduate in #AEOSTYLE!

Girls: Light and Classic
You’ve been studying equations for the past few years, so here’s one we know you’ll get: light dress + graduation gown = no distracting colors showing through! White is a traditional, clean color (which is why it’s perfect for important occasions like graduation), and it’s also appropriate because it won’t show through your gown & will look great in pictures. Make sure the dress you choose hits right above the knee so it doesn’t peek out below your gown! Strappy tan wedges are neutral and will pair well with any color gown. If you want to bring a little personality to the look, do it by adding small details like a fun bralette or a statement necklace.

Graduation in #AEOSTYLE! Congratulations Class of 2016.

Guys: Simple and Bright
You graduation outfit is all about muted tones & classic styling. The key to making the grade is an airy button-down shirt and simple pants. If khaki is your thing, then go for it! Remember, black or grey pants would work well, too. If you’re going to wear a patterned shirt, make sure that the print is subtle and not too dark. The light blue striped shirt below will work well since it won’t overheat you underneath your graduation gown – it is a two-hour long ceremony, after all. Casual shoes like boat shoes or loafers will complete your look.

Congratulations Class of 2016! You made it. Now, it's time to graduate in #AEOSTYLE.

Moxie a Fashion Blog Loves the Swim She's In!

“When I was asked to partner with Aerie (American Eagle) for their Real Campaign, I was SO excited. Not just about the product I would be featuring but about the cause. I am so so so passionate about girls, young and old loving their bodies. They challenged people to post unretouched photos of them in a swimsuit to show what girls’ bodies everywhere can look like. It’s so easy to get caught up looking at magazines and wishing we had something we don’t, whether it be the clothes we’re looking at or the body of the model wearing them. I kind of love how social media blogging has put advertising into the hands of everyday girls to try to eliminate the gap that’s sometimes felt when someone looks at a model in a magazine. Learning to love your body is one of the most freeing things ever. And so my hope is that every girl everywhere can learn to do the same.”

AEO Lake Powell Travel Diary

With its beautiful landscapes painted in orange and red tones as well as the many activities on land and water, Lake Powell has become a very popular vacation spot. Casey, Melissa, and I couldn’t wait to explore the area so we packed up the car in LA and hit the road for an epic weekend getaway.

When we got to Lake Powell we did some hiking through some of the most unique landscapes we’ve ever seen. One stop we made on our hike was the Rimrocks Hoodoos where mushroom shaped rock formations stick straight up out of the ground.

AEO Lake Powell

Next up on our list was one place I have been dying to see, Antelope Canyon. We took a tour through the lower canyon with smooth sandstone walls made over time by wind and water. There were even dinosaur footprints at the end of the canyon!

AEO Lake Powell

After all of the hiking we needed to refuel so we stopped at a Thai restaurant in town called Dara Thai Express. After we refueled we threw on our swimwear and hit the water. With the beautiful blue water and surrounding landscapes it really felt like we were on another planet.

AEO Lake Powell

To end our first day of adventuring, we decided to go to a lookout spot very close to the Glen Canyon Dam. We sat along the edge of one of the cliffs, listened to some tunes and watched the sunset — truly a moment I’ll never forget. Once it started getting dark we headed over to Bonkers Restaurant and had some amazing dinner before we called it a night.

The next morning, we grabbed breakfast at Ranch House Grill and then headed to Horseshoe Bend to catch some early morning light. It was a little cold outside so we grabbed a few sleeping bags and set them up right next to the edge of this beautiful windy canyon where we watched the many boats on the river below us float by.

AEO Lake Powell

The last spot was something straight out of a movie. Just off a little dirt road is a huge cliff face called Coal Mine Canyon. The canyon overlooked colorful rock formations scattered throughout the vast desert landscape. We opened up our map and decided to do some exploring. Around every corner was something new and unique. We could’ve explored the area forever!

AEO Lake Powell

Lake Powell is definitely a place to add to your travel bucket list. There is so much to do and so many beautiful places to see!
