1-Step Upcycle DIYs

1-STEP UPCYCLE DIYS

AE stylist Bri is here to show you how to add new life to those pieces collecting dust in the back of your closet! You know the ones – that tee you loved but wore just a few too many times, that hoodie left by an ex, those jeans that feel kinda “last season” now that warmer days are here to stay…

Upcycling your clothes isn’t just on-trend, it’s also good for the planet! With just a few snips, you’re getting these pieces back into your outfit rotation rather than adding them to a landfill.

All you need to get started is a sturdy pair of scissors and some courage to take the first cut!

Cropped Hoodie

If you’re anything like Bri, you have a ton of oversized hoodies in your closet. Pick one to crop to the waistline of your favorite pair of joggers.

What to do:

Cut right above the pocket line. Wear over a tank if you don’t love baring your belly or go full-on crop for a bolder style!

Cut-Off Jean Shorts

With sunny days on their way, now’s the time to turn those jeans into shorts! Bri loves the high rise and throwback wash of the ‘90s Boyfriend jeans for her DIY, but use whatever pair you have on hand.

What to do:

Cut your jeans and whatever length feels good to you (Bri made hers into midi shorts, cutting right below the destroyed detailing on the thigh). Once you make the cut, throw your new shorts in the dyer for a few minutes to get that extra fray along the bottom. The more you wear, wash, and love these shorts, the more authentically YOU the distressing will become!

Cropped Tee

Make an oversized tee feel fresh and femme with just a little trim.

What to do:

Cut a straight line at whatever length you love. To style your new cropped tee, roll the sleeves then knot it in the front or back, or just leave the new raw hem showing for a casual vibe!
