Meet Rachael:
“Rachael is the pint-sized, fashion loving, rebel behind the Miami-based style website Summer of Diane.  She launched her site after hanging up her hair stylist shears to become a full-time gypsy, having lived on both coasts totaling 5 states in the past 5 years.  She has finally settled her roots in Miami, but the constant change solidified her longstanding belief that it’s never too late to start a new adventure.  Summer of Diane is where she shares her bohemian beach style, travel inspiration, & passion for all things tropical.”

What Inspired Rachael’s Look:
“Being a self-proclaimed denim short aficionado, I have to admit that these Vintage Hi-Rise Festival Shorties are one of my favorites.  I absolutely love that they have zero stretch to the fabric, which makes them feel like genuine vintage shorts.  I know we’ve all been conditioned to equate stretch with comfort, but rest assured they are so soft & broken-in, that there is nothing uncomfortable about them.  Additionally, I would consider myself fairly petite, standing in at 4’11”, and I love how flattering the Hi-Rise style is on my smaller frame.  These shorts have even managed to give me the illusion of having curves, & that my friends, is nothing shy of a miracle.

With festival & outdoor concert season right around the corner, I wanted to put a fun look together to kick start your summer inspiration.  I paired the shorts with this feminine lace top because I felt like it was a nice juxtaposition against the ultra-distressed denim.  I topped the look off with some whimsical accessories & a pair of chunky platforms.  My personal style definitely leans more to the adventurous side than most, but I feel like festival season is the perfect time to experiment with your own look.  So have fun, throw some glitter on your face, & pick up a pair of these amazing shorts—You won’t regret it!”

HOW TO WEAR SPRING’S MUST-HAVE NON-STRETCH DENIM

How To Wear Non-Stretch Denim The Vintage Hi-Rise Jean

Don’t get us wrong – we’ll always have a spot in our closets for a great pair of stretchy jeans (brunch, for starters). But it’s time to get back to the basics: as in, 100-percent-cotton blues. Iconic, authentic, good-old-fashioned JEANS, crafted from rigid denim that is just waiting to be broken in to fit your body perfectly.

…and that breaking-in process? That is KEY. Non-stretch denim is an entirely different ballgame. Like most great things in life, it is truly about the journey… with the destination being an amazing rear view (obvs) AND a pair of jeans that fits like a glove and will last forever.

Lucky for you, we have an in with one of New York’s most in-demand stylists, and we’re sharing her tips for rocking spring’s most-talked-about jeans.

WEAR ‘EM ON YOUR WAIST

A high rise is CRUCIAL. It highlights your curves, lifts your butt and creates a naturally sexy and flatteringly feminine silhouette.

SIZE UP, IF NEEDED

Keep in mind that these are literally non-stretch. As in, denim that does not stretch.

The first time you try them on, they will likely feel pretty snug around your waistline – almost a little too tight, even. That’s a good thing, because once you break them in, they will loosen up to fit you just right. Choose a size that fits your true waist snugly, and the denim will do the rest, becoming a little bit softer and more forgiving with every single wear. Alternatively, if you prefer a looser, more relaxed fit and would rather skip the break-in process, simply size up and carry on!

MAKE THEM YOUR OWN

We love the timeless look of a skinny belt and tucked-in tee, but this is the perfect pair of jeans for experimenting with different silhouettes and layers to find your own unique style.
