How To Style The Vintage Hi-Rise Jean With Blake Von D

Things we’re still obsessed with: the Vintage Hi-Rise Jean. Since we last styled this denim fit, the Vintage Hi-Rise Jean has made its way to an even deeper place in our heart as we’re discovering new washes & ways to wear them. This month, two-tone denim is everywhere, and we’re loving it in this straight-leg, cropped look. With just enough of a 90s vibe, this jean is super versatile and can be dressed up for a night out with friends or down for weekend hangouts. Blake, the blogger behind Blake Von D, is showing you how to master the tricky two-tone look below.

Meet Blake:
Blake is a lawyer and digital influencer. It was during this time that she really began to make a name for herself in the world of blogging, all while earning a Master’s Degree from NYU. Not one to settle, in 2012, she decided to pursue her life long dream of becoming an attorney and enrolled in law school at Tulane University.

Throughout all of her academic endeavors, I have continued to use her influence as a blogger to champion the causes most near to her heart — specifically the empowering of women in all their various walks of life and the celebration of women of color across all professions, but especially in the field of fashion.”

What Inspired Blake’s Look:
“When it comes to denim, you can never have enough pairs of comfortable jeans. That said, it doesn’t mean they all have to look same. It’s okay to add a little variety and interest. Enter these two-toned vintage hi-rise jeans!

They’re a really fun pair of jeans and they add a bit of visual detail to any outfit. I also love that they’re cropped at the ankle. (That’s kind of my thing these days with denim.) The fraying is a nice detail as well.

I paired them with a simple black turtleneck, sneakers, shades and a color-blocked coat. It’s casual but still makes a statement. I wore this look shopping, and I had so many sales associates stop and compliment me. With all of the colors and lines, your eyes aren’t really sure where to go first. But you can be sure that wherever they land, you’re going to like what you see.”

Laura’s Tips: How To Wear Pattern On Pattern

One of the biggest trends throughout our latest collection is patterns and prints. We’re excited about the life bold patterns bring to some of our favorite styles like button-down shirts, rompers and tees. Patterns are a fun update to basic pieces and provide the opportunity to refresh how you mix and match your closet. Since the spotlight is on prints, we asked our Styling Manager, Laura, to show us a few ways to wear pattern on pattern. This isn’t as tricky as it sounds, and anyone can do it with a few quick styling tips! Laura says, “I love mixing pattern on pattern! As long as you keep the color scheme somewhat similar, anyone can pull it off.”

Laura recommends playing with the scales of prints (for example, mix a bigger patterned tee with a smaller printed button-down, as you’ll see below) or keeping the prints close in size for an unexpected contrast. Stick to the same color scheme or tie in one color from each piece to seamlessly bring the look together. Check out all three of Laura’s pattern on pattern outfits below!

Shop the Look: Ruffle Wrap Romper | Denim Boyfriend Shirt | Dolce Vita Ciara Espadrille | Metal Round Sunglasses

How To Wear It: Take it easy in this effortlessly sweet pairing. Make pattern on pattern work here by tying in the blue tones of the romper to a patterned chambray button-down shirt. Laura recommends tying the button-down around the waist to show off the scale in pattern. Finish off the look with neutral flats or booties to dress the outfit up – your choice! Add some mirrored sunnies for a cool touch that doesn’t overrun the look.

Shop the Look: Bleach Wash T-Shirt | Poplin Button Down T-Shirt | Slim Active Flex Jean
Lace-Up Sneaker | Clubmax Sunglasses

How To Wear It: The key to this pattern on pattern look is working in the same color family. Because the patterns are vastly different, Laura kept both prints in the blue family so that combining the shirts wouldn’t feel overwhelming. Khaki slim pants help to neutralize the bold top half, and sneakers keep it casual. Black top-rimmed sunglasses make the look street-style ready.

Shop the Look: Soft & Sexy V-Neck T-Shirt | Don’t Ask Why Soft Jogger Pant | Strappy Sandal
Triangle Pendant Necklace | Chevron Bracelet Duo

How To Wear It: Go boho in this vibrant, free-spirited look. Pair a patterned soft pant (we used a jogger-style pant here) with a tie-dye tee. Make sure that the tee and pants contain corresponding colors – in this case, a beautiful deep indigo – so that the pairing is deliberate, not haphazard! Tuck the shirt in slightly in the front, and pile on bracelets and a necklace. Finish the look with brown strappy sandals.
