WHAT WE’RE WEARING:  AEO EMBROIDERED TOTE
The bold geometric design and metallic embellishments make this tote the one we’re grabbing for everything from beach vacays to brunch dates. It’s just roomy enough to hold all our essentials, but designed in a subtly flat silhouette that doesn’t overwhelm you.

WHAT WE’RE DRINKING:  MINT ARNOLD PALMERS
There is just nothing more refreshing in the summer than a big glass of ice cold lemonade. But we’re taking ours to the next level by combining it with green tea, honey and sprigs of mint. The result? The beverage you won’t be able to stop drinking for the rest of the summer.

WHAT WE’RE READING:  IF I STAY BY GAYLE FORMAN
What if you had the opportunity to decide whether you stayed on Earth… or left it behind? 17-year-old cellist, Mia, is in a car accident with her family that, impossibly enough, leaves her this choice. What follows is a beautiful, heartwrenching story about love, loss and the difficult choices we all have to make in our lives. Be sure to read this book before the movie, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, comes out on August 22.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:  VERY GOOD GIRLS
We’ve been excited about this movie since we first heard that it was filming. Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen (AKA Mary Kate & Ashley’s sister) star as two girls in NYC who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school… and then both fall for the same guy. We bet we’ll beat you to the concession stand.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING:  BROKEN AGE
If hand painting, sci-fi/fantasy/adventure and iPad games aren’t your thing, maybe the fact that this one is voiced by Elijah Wood and Jack Black will make you take a second look. The gamer in us is pretty excited to play this one.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO:  FIFTEEN BY GOLDROOM
LA-based Goldroom combines emotive choruses, soulful rhythms and lush electronic ornaments to create a sound that’s somehow a throwback to the 90′s with a totally modern feel. The lyrics of this song, which features Chela, really speak for themselves: “It’s been a long time, wondering why/the summer smells like sin and wonder/Feels like it got inside of a place and time/I dream about when I get a walk in”

WHERE WE’RE GOING:  SAN DIEGO
From the world acclaimed San Diego Zoo to Legoland, there’s a little something for everyone in the balmy paradise that is San Diego. Plus the weather is pretty darn awesome, pretty much all the time. (Okay, okay… and we can’t help but think of Will Ferrell talking about how San Diego’s name came to be in Anchorman.)

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: STAR PRINTED SNEAKERS
Get a little patriotic with your #AEOSTYLE by slipping a pair of star-printed sneakers on your feet! Whether you go for slip-ons or chukkas, this trend is all red, white and you.

WHAT WE’RE EATING: SALT & STRAW ICE CREAM
Let’s face it—nothing says summer like a big scoop of ice cream. But we’re not talking your typical, run of the mill vanilla here. Portland’s Salt & Straw ice cream is handmade in small batches with 17 percent butterfat, all-natural dairy, organic and local ingredients (with a few imported flavors thrown in for good measure). They had us at Chocolate Chip Mint Julep and Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbon.

WHAT WE’RE READING: ELEANOR & PARK BY RAINBOW ROWELL
Honestly? We’re loving this book for the cover alone. It’s just a bonus that this story of two star-crossed teens who meet in 1986 and bond over their mutual love of comic books is SO. FREAKING. GOOD. This is the book EVERYONE is reading right now, so don’t be left out. (Oh, and The Fault in Our Stars’ very own John Green wrote a glowing review of it in The New York Times, so there’s that.)

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: TAMMY
It seems Melissa McCarthy can do no wrong. Her latest movie centers around a character who loses her job and finds out her husband has been cheating on her. Doesn’t sound like the most uplifting start, sure… but something tells us McCarthy’s physical comedy will find a way to give people more than a few laughs.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: THE NEW EMOJI LIST
All right, so these aren’t TECHNICALLY available yet, but we’re chomping at the bit to get our fingers on all new emojis for our texts and Instagram posts. A few of the gems include a sports medal, chipmunk, candle, crayon and a wind blowing face.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: HUNGER OF THE PINE BY ALT-J
Indie rock band Alt-J isn’t only cool because they’re from England. They have a way of drawing you in with their mesmerizingly awesome beats. This song in particular is tranquil with an edgy vibe and just a little mysterious. (Oh, and it includes Miley Cyrus on a loop. So there’s that.)

WHERE WE’RE GOING: BOSTON
There really isn’t a better place to celebrate the 4th than in one of our most patriotic cities. Boston is home to the Freedom Trail, which includes everything from Old North Church (which, hint hint, played a major part in the American Revolution) and the beautiful Boston Common. But what we’re most excited for is the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, which takes place on the Esplanade at the Charles River and includes the concert and one of the most awesome fireworks displays you can possibly imagine. If you need a quick bite, stop at Spike’s for a Junkyard Dog—be sure to get one with a pickle spear inside the bun.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: MUSCLE TEES
Summer’s hottest tops are a little rock ‘n roll inspired (and a whole lot of awesome). Right now we’re especially loving this Muscle T-Shirt from our brand-new Don’t Ask Why collection, which fuses the effortless street style of New York, L.A. and Milan with festival-inspired edge.Wear it with soft shorties, like we’ve styled it here, or try it with jeggings or a maxi skirt.

WHAT WE’RE EATING: GRILLED STRAWBERRY PARFAIT
Did you know that grilling and roasting fruit helps bring out its natural sweetness? Well, it does… and right now we’re obsessed with adding grilled strawberries to Greek yogurt and granola for a healthy yet totally sweet treat.

WHAT WE’RE READING: THE GIVER BY LOIS LOWRY
Whether this was/is required reading for you in school or you just pick it up for fun, this book is a must-read. Lowry’s book was at the forefront of the YA dystopic craze, and for good reason… her story centers around Jonas, who lives in a community in the future where everything has become controlled to the point of Sameness. After receiving the position of The Receiver for the community, Jonas goes on a gripping path of self discovery. Read the book now before the movie (featuring one of our current #MCMs, Brenton Thwaites) comes out in August.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: GIRL MEETS WORLD
Okay, it hasn’t premiered yet (it starts on June 27). But in the meantime, we’re obsessively watching (and rewatching) the trailer featuring our favorites, Cory and Topanga. (And we might just be watching old episodes of Boy Meets World to get even more excited.) We’re really hoping this show lives up to our expectations.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: YOUTUBE CLIPS OF THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON
Simply put? Jimmy Fallon is killing it as the new(ish) head of The Tonight Show. We watch every clip he posts on YouTube and laugh uproariously at every one, from his Lip Sync Battle with Emma Stone to the celebrity photobomb he did with Jon Hamm. We can’t wait to see what happens every night.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: CLUBFEET BY HEARTBREAK FEATURING CHELA
A combination of disco, electronic, electro and synthpop sounds like it might be a little overwhelming… but in the case of Heartbreak, the duo of Ali Renault and Sebastian Muravchix, it somehow works. You won’t be able to keep from dancing to the beat of this track, which feels like a mix of 80′s pop with current electro pop.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: SEATTLE
Did you know that Saturday is the longest day of the year? That’s why we’re heading to Seattle, where we’ll have our pick of the Fremont Fair, Solstice Parade and the first ever Solstice Concert Series. We also can’t wait to check out the different boutiques, nightlife and the restaurant scene. Oh, and we’ll probably be picking up a few of our favorite Starbucks lattes.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: THE AE SOFT ROMPER
Need something amazing to wear to all those graduation parties you’ve been invited to? This romper is designed in soft, lightweight jersey to keep you cool while the parties heat up. We’re loving the tied back straps, the slouchy fit and the can’t help but be noticed bright pink hue.

WHAT WE’RE EATING/DRINKING: ICED COFFEE
There really is just nothing better than a cold, refreshing drink in the middle of a heat wave. Now that summer is (almost) (finally?) here, we can’t get enough of iced coffee. Whether you like it black or with cream and sugar, it’s got the perfect amount of caffeine to give you that needed boost when you feel like you’re starting to drag. (Plus, we love taking afternoon walks to Big Dog, a coffee shop near our South Side campus.)

WHAT WE’RE READING: RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA BY KIMBERLY MCCREIGHT
There’s a mystery surrounding the death of Brooklyn teen Amelia, and her mother is determined to get to the bottom of it. Multiple plot twists, gasp out loud surprises and intertwining characters make this a highly entertaining and seriously obsessive read. We even started an office book club just so we could read this one!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: LABYRINTH
We can’t wait for this two-part miniseries, airing on May 22-23 on The CW. Not only does it star the gorgeous Jessica Findlay (who played Sybil on Downton Abbey), but this story that shifts back and forth between medieval and modern-day France features Tom Felton (AKA Draco Malfoy) and Sebastian Stan (AKA the Winter Soldier). We can’t wait to travel in time with these three.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: BOOTIE MASHUP
Want to listen to some awesome bootleg mashups? Head to this site, run by A Plus D, which promises to “provide the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation.” Find mashups of everything from “Turn Down For What” and “#Selfie” to “Timber” and the can’t help but dance to it “Happy” by Pharrell.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: “RED EYES” BY THE WAR ON DRUGS
These four guys from Philly have been rocking since their debut studio album, Wagonwheel Blues, in 2008. Off their third studio album, Lost In The Dream, “Red Eyes” is the perfect road trip song—it has just enough energy to keep you going but with a relaxed, laidback vibe.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: MUIR WOODS
Did you know today is Love A Tree Day? And there’s really just no better place to do that than the Muir Woods. It’s filled with redwood and sequoia trees with ancestors that date back millions of years—and the sight of these massive trees is, in a word, magical. After you get your fill of nature, be sure to take a drive down the coastal highway for some truly breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

7 things we love…

We’re back with another 7 Things We Love! Here are all the things inspiring us right this second, from what we’re eating and watching to what we’re wearing and downloading. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: WATER FOUNTAIN BY tUnE-yArDs
When playing live, New England native Merrill Garbus can create drum loops on the spot and layer them with ukulele, vocals and electric bass. The first single off her 3rd album, Nikki Nack, “Water Fountain” is an awesome mix of eclectic, upbeat and world music inspiration. This is definitely the kind of song that will be stuck in your head for days on end (in a good way, of course).

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: 100 NEW EMOJIS
Avery Monson is kind of a genius with this new Vine, which features everything from “A Tupperware Container Full of Secrets” and “Season 3 of The OC on Blu-Ray” to “Incriminating Browser History” and “A Guy Who Refuses to Eat Over-Ripe Bananas.” Each one is darn near perfect in its execution—we dare you not to keep watching (and pausing) for hours at a time.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: BALTIMORE, MD
The Kentucky Derby may be this weekend, but we’re gearing up for Preakness Stakes… or, our favorite part of it, “The Freakness.” This giant outdoor party attracts thousands of people and always promises to be a good time. While you’re in town, why not enjoy some of what Baltimore has to offer, like the sights of the inner harbor and the locally owned shops and restaurants in Fell’s Point. (Or if you’re into baseball, a visit to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum is a worthy stop.)

WHAT WE’RE READING: THE SELECTION SERIES BY KIERA CASS
In this series’ (near) dystopian future, America has become Illéa, an empire complete with a system of eight castes and The Selection, a competition for the prince’s hand in marriage. America Singer, a Five, becomes one of 35 girls to enter the competition. These books are full of intrigue and plot twists you’ll never see coming—and with Cass’s third book, The One, coming out on May 6, we can’t wait to find out what happens next. If you’re a fan of dystopian literature like The Hunger Games, Divergent and Delirium, this series is a must read.

WHAT WE’RE EATING: FISH TACOS WITH MANGO MINT COCONUT COLESLAW
Say what you want about Gwyneth Paltrow, but the woman can come up with some seriously amazing recipes. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in true #AEOSTYLE with these fish tacos, which combine cod coated in salt and pepper with charred peppers and some good ol’ fashioned grill time. Be sure to top them with this fresh take on cabbage slaw.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: NINA PUSHUP PINEAPPLE BIKINI TOP
Pineapples are this season’s IT print. They lend an immediately cheerful and retro-inspired vibe to every outfit, and we’re simply loving them festooned on our Nina bikini top. Plus, now we’re totally ready for a visit to the Dole plantation in Hawaii.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: NEIGHBORS
Okay, so technically this movie doesn’t come out until next week. But we’re already obsessed with the new sure to be hilarious movie starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a couple with a new baby and Zac Efron and Dave Franco as the leaders of a raucous fraternity who moves in next door. We can’t even count how many times we’ve already watched the trailer.

7 Things We Love…

Here at AEO, we’re inspired by so many different things. Food, travel, music, movies… you name it, the sky’s the limit! We’re starting a new series on the blog where you can see all of our inspirations—and maybe get a little inspired yourself. Here’s the first installment of what we can’t live without.

7-things

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: KEEP YOU BY WILD BELLE
We’re digging this song from Wild Belle’s debut album, Isles. Chicago natives (and siblings!) Elliot and Natalie Bergman have created the perfect mix of indie rock and funk. This track’s addictive sound will definitely have you playing it again and again and again and… well, you get the point.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: TRAKTOR DJ
Have big dreams of being a DJ? Well, it’s now easier than ever (and totally at your fingertips) with this awesome app. Choose from eight different effects like Beatmasher, Filter and Flanger to cut up and rearrange beats, create quick cuts and more. Plus, you can use it on your iPad or iPhone!

WHERE WE’RE GOING: DENVER
Looking for a place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Denver boasts one of the largest celebrations in the US. The two-day festival includes live music and all the authentic Mexican cuisine you can handle. Work off all the tacos by taking advantage of the city’s hiking trails and mountain terrain.

WHAT WE’RE READING: THE FAULT IN OUR STARS BY JOHN GREEN
It’s only one of the most popular YA books to come out in the past five years. This story about two teenage cancer patients who find each other and fall in love is a tearjerker, for sure… but it’s also full of hope and the appreciation of living life to the fullest. Not to mention the movie, which stars Divergent’s Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, is only one of the most anticipated movie releases of the year (it comes out on June 6).

WHAT WE’RE EATING: SMOOTHIE BOWLS
The weather’s heating up (finally) (we think?) and that has us craving colder foods. Smoothie bowls are the cousin of acai bowls, which are a Brazilian treat made from frozen acai pulp blended with other frozen fruit and topped with fresh sliced fruit, granola and honey. But since acai is a little hard to find, try a smoothie bowl—all you need is spinach, avocado, and whatever frozen fruit you have in the freezer! Mmm, mmm good.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: AE SOFT FLORAL JUMPSUIT
The oversized floral print. The mismatched pockets. The bold black and white. The silhouette. Everything about this jumpsuit just screams “I’m right on trend for spring!” It’s really just a bonus that it’s incredibly comfy, too.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: MEAN GIRLS ON NETFLIX
This movie totally made fetch happen. We kind of can’t believe it’s 10 years old already. This classic just never goes out of style. Thanks to Netflix, we’re watching the antics of the Plastics over and over again and quoting all the memorable lines nonstop. A few of our favorites: “On Wednesdays, we wear pink.” “That’s why her hair is so big. It’s full of secrets.” “Whatever. I’m getting cheese fries.” “You go, Glenn Coco!”
