Real Talk with Ava Frati of Pō Swim

We’re so excited to support Pō Swim, a collection inspired by Miami and started by Ava Frati at just 15! We talked to Ava about her entry into the design world, her newest Pō Swim collection and what #AerieREAL means to her. Read on to find out how growing up in Miami has influenced this 15 year old to change the swim game, and meet Ava on Saturday, 12.9 at our NEW Lincoln Road store!

Real Talk with Ava Frati of Pō SwimReal Talk with Ava Frati of Pō Swim

You started Pō Swim at the age of 15. What advice do you have for other young girls trying to start their own businesses?

I launched Pō Swim on my website earlier this year when I turned 15. I worked hard to try and design what young girls, like me, wanted in a swimsuit. The advice I have for other young girls trying to start their own businesses is believe in your ideas and set your goals high. Share your ideas for feedback with those you trust. Take advice and don’t be scared. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

The one piece swimsuit has really made a comeback! What is your fave new swim trend?

My new favorite swim trend would have to be the plunge top. It’s such a flattering and empowering shape– I can’t wait to introduce the new ones I designed.

What’s your favorite piece from your collection?

My favorite piece from my collection would have to be the Mar top with the Emma bottoms. Even though I do truly love all my suits, this set is so versatile. The mesh panels give off an active, sexy look, and the stitching of the suit is perfect for physical activity, or even hanging out on the beach. It’s the one suit that every girl should have!Real Talk with Ava Frati of Pō Swim

How has growing up in Miami influenced your designs?

Growing up in Miami has influenced my designs by seeing lots of bikinis and the beautiful girls who wear them in all shapes and sizes. We are lucky enough to swim, boat and sunbathe all year round. Miami girls are always looking for that “new” bikini. We are active so it must move with us. Miami has influenced the ease of my designs, the comfort of the ultra-soft fabrics and the colors I choose. From the Miami sunsets, to the city lights of South Beach, all the colors and shapes of Miami have built my collection.

Pō Swim is continuing to grow! What can we expect to see in the future from your brand?

When I was younger, I knew I wanted to design. Pō Swim has just started as a bathing suit company but I want to expand and grow. I want the Pō Swim girl to wear my cover ups, carry my beach bags and slip on my shoes! In the future I plan to do espadrilles, beach bags and hats, ready to wear, and activewear. I want to grow with Pō Swim girls and hope they want to grow with me too!

What makes you #AerieREAL?

I am #AerieReal because I took chances and believed in a dream. All young girls dream of a way to express themselves but sometimes we get scared we may not achieve our goals. I chose to express myself through design. I hope other girls love my story and feel inspired to believe in themselves and dream big too. I am grateful to Aerie for giving me this awesome opportunity!

Where there is confidence there is beauty!

Ultra Recap 2014

ultra

Last weekend we decided to head back to Miami – the site of our alternative spring break – to hit up Ultra, one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the northeastern hemisphere. We danced, we shopped, we partied until the Miami sun came up, we ate some good Peruvian food, oh and then we danced some more. You could probably add “raged” to that list. There was quite a bit of fist pumping, hands in the air energy. In short, it was freaking awesome! Check out our photo diary and relive the moments of Miami Music Week with us.

Edit2

Edit 3

Not everyone at the massive Miami rave was a candy kid with fuzzy boots. We found AEO style everywhere we looked! And our Soft Cutout Bralette was a clear favorite amongst the ladies of Ultra.

Edit 1

Stopping at the Worldwide stage was almost inescapable as it was the first thing we ran into every time we entered the fest grounds. But with performances by GTA & Mat Zo, We didn’t mind one bit.

Edit 7

It was hot in Miami. Really hot. The go-to outfit for just about every festival girl was denim shorts and a bralette.

Edit 4

While big names like Deadmau5 and Guetta topped the lineup of the mainstage, tucked away on a large patch of grass was the Underground stage where the crowd was doing anything but raging. The Dirtybird Players, Kill Frenzy, J.Phlip, Justin Martin & the boss man, Claude VonStroke all offered up their house stylings to a chilled out crowd of house-heads.

Edit 8

Yup. More bralettes. This fashionista danced the day and night away in our Floral Print Bralette.

Edit 6

The Main stage was where it was at for most of the festival. From Martin Garixx to Nicky Romero to a crushing performance from Hardwell, this is where we truly raged. Also, check out how many flags are in that crowd. Music aside, it was pretty cool to meet so many people from so many different continents!

Edit 9

You’ve no doubt seen plenty of scenic pictures showing off Miami’s gorgeous palm tree dotted skylines. But we had to throw at least one in for good measure. Can you blame us? This was taken from the festival grounds on the edge near the water. Anytime we couldn’t get Internet access – which is basically like water to us – we’d head over to that pretty spot, check our twitter feeds real quick, then head back to the party.

Edit 10

Few words can describe moments like these. Check out our Vine for some video footage. It’s worth it.

Edit 14

Before the insanity of Ultra, we headed to the Dirtybird party at Caffeina Wynwood Lounge to check out one of our fave DJs, J.Phlip. She brought the booty tech acid house just like we expected. And it was totally worth the pains of finding a cab to get home. But seriously, Miami cabbies. What gives with you guys?

Edit 11

Drum & bass, breakbeat, dubstep, UK garage, you name it, Chase & Status are pumping it. The Londoners have been playing raves since before most of you were old enough to know what one was. Consider them wise sages of the London underground. Respect!

Edit 12

Late night Sunday, the Underground Story Stage changed into the Ibiza stage and confused us. But we ended up checking out Ibiza veteran, John Digweed’s acid techno set, which ended up being a nice way to clear the brostep drops from rattling our brains too much.

Edit 13

We continued on that wave of atmospheric techno by visiting the Trance Stage. It was like nothing else we had experienced, something like the church of trance. We had a hard time even getting this shot of the stage because security kept telling us to move back. We managed though, ‘cause we love you guys.

Edit 15

There were tons of after parties going on in South Beach. They started long before we got there for the very music industry focused Winter Music Conference. We braved the angry cabbies and made our way out to LMNT Studies – actually in North Miami. And we caught the Boys Noize Records party, which featured the Detroit stylings of Jimmy Edgar; Bmore’s poster boy for rap, Spank Rock and the newest project from Skrillex called Dogblood where he partners with Boys Noize himself. You can check out our Vine for some cool footage of Jimmy Edgar killing it.

Edit 16

Beats Music Cocktail party with Poolside playing groovy house and disco cuts. One of our more chilled out moments.

Edit 17

We couldn’t possibly go to Miami without visiting our Lincoln Rd. store. Surrounded by fun and fancy shops, our AEO location there offers summertime duds year-round. It made us Pittsburgh folks wish we could relocate!

Edit 18

Edit 19

While we were there, we got to meet the lovely and talented Hannah. She’s the Lincoln store’s visual merchandiser, an expert stylist! She styled herself in our Soft Floral Jumpsuit, Western Bootie, Triple Chevron Necklace and Floral Bun Wrap. Cute, comfy & ready for any festival.

Edit 21

The last time we were in Miami, left our mark in Wynwood. This time around, we captured a lot more of the talented artists who also left their mark there. Below are some of our favorites. It was hard to choose, everything looked mesmerizing! This mural above is by Ron English and the below by RETNA.

Edit 24

Edit 23

Remember this? It hasn’t disappeared yet!

Stay tuned in to our Vine, Twitter, Instagram as well as our sister, Aerie’s social media for our next adventure in Indio, California! Or maybe we’ll see you there.

Real Talk with Hana – #AerieREAL

Real Talk with Hana – #AerieREAL

Meet Hana! The newest addition to our Aerie team. Beautiful inside and out, read on to watch and learn what makes Hana #AerieREAL.

Real Talk with Hana - #AerieREAL

Hana catching up with friends while waiting for her next shot!

Hi, Hana! Thanks for sitting down with us! Where’s home to you?

I am originally from Claremont in Southern California, but now I live in West Village in NYC.

Do you have any hobbies that you can’t get enough of?

Yes! Yoga! I teach Yoga each week as well.

What’s your favorite yoga pose?

When things in my life are going crazy, I like to flip upside down. Inversions are awesome! I also really love hip openers and heart openers. It reminds me to remember to stand up and tall and not slouch.

Real Talk with Hana - #AerieREAL

Namaste!

That’s awesome! You’re really talented! What’s your must-have item in your purse?

Chapstick, I’m fully addicted to any chapstick and have about 15! But, of course, I always grab my one purse that never has any chapstick in it. If I had to choose a flavor? I would say cherry!

What’s your favorite go-to item in your closet?

I do have a favorite t-shirt! It’s sheer, long, and asymmetrical. I like to tie it up at the bottom. I wear it all the time, so my friends who are reading this will totally know what I am talking about!

Real Talk with Hana - #AerieREAL

Hana rocking out in her soft lace bralette and striped boxers!

What’s your all time favorite Aerie piece for Spring?

OMG. I love everything! I’m addicted to all of it. Aerie’s sweatpants are so cute and I love the little pockets. Also, I usually don’t rock a pushup, but I love the Brooke Polka Dot Pushup suit. I also love the bedtime lacy boxers!

Do you have a role model?

To be honest, any strong, confident, female serves as a great role model to me. Lately, I have loved reading about Malala Yousafzai, “the bravest girl in the world.”  Her level of resilience is amazing and I love that she stands up for what she believes in.

Real Talk with Hana - #AerieREAL

Let’s switch things up! Instead of John shooting Hana…wait, Hana that’s not what we meant!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what does “love” mean to you?

I was in a yoga class and a teacher was talking about how the Japanese don’t say, “I love you.” And, if you think about it…we say “I love you” all the time! They challenge, “how can you take such a big feeling and emotion into a single word. It’s such an incredible thing!” I really like that description of it.

While it may be hard for me to sum up I do know one thing is for sure; it makes me warm and fuzzy just talking about it, and I don’t think it’s the Miami heat! 🙂

Thank you so much Hana for chatting with us!

Learn more about #AerieREAL and “no retouching” here, and stay tuned for more upcoming “real talk” interviews.

xo,

Aerie
