What’s it like living in Keene, New Hampshire?

It’s a beautiful place. I’ve lived here throughout my entire life and I’m ready for the city, but I have a feeling I’ll be coming back.

What part of Keene do you spend most of your time in?

I’m usually inside rehearsing but there are a few mountains around. Hiking with friends is always fun.

You love to sing. Are you a tenor, baritone or bass?

I’m a baritone. I started off singing the bass line with my a cappella group, but I’ve been working on my high notes!

Do you play any instruments?

I’ve been playing the piano for a few years and I’m starting to learn how to play the guitar.

Besides singing, what else do you do?

I’m an actor, too. I’ve been performing on stage for about eight years and I finished up a short film over the summer! It’d be great to work on more films in the future.

Have you ever gotten stage fright?

A little when I first started, but you just have to tell yourself you can do it. It gets easier every time.

How do you prepare for a performance?

I do a lot of breathing exercises before a performance, stretching works pretty well, too. Nerves can only drive you crazy if you let them.

Meet the Cast: Sarah

Meet the Cast: Sarah

Meet Sarah, a Longboarder from New Boston, MI and winner of American Eagle Outfitters’ Project Live Your Life. Follow Sarah on Instagram and Pinterest to learn more about what makes her one of a kind.

You were raised in Hawaii. How is that different than your current hometown in Michigan?

It’s polar opposite. The entire culture and way of life is completely different. I am used to waking up in sunny warm weather and going surfing or hanging out at the beach. Now I am experiencing living in snow for the first time and somewhere without any beaches. My style also had to change. In Hawaii I wore a lot of shorts, skirts and summer dresses. Now 80% percent of my closet is jackets, jeans, scarves and beanies.

How long have you been long boarding for? What inspired you to start?

I’ve been long boarding since I was 10. When there weren’t any good waves to surf, people would long board, so I picked it up.

You play the ukulele. How did you get into that?

My dad played for our church band and I wanted to learn, so he taught me. Once I started getting good he got me my own.

How long have you been surfing?

I’ve been surfing since I was 6 years old.

Are there any similarities between both surfing and long boarding or are they completely different?

There are a lot of similarities! I like to think of long boarding as surfing on concrete. A big difference is it hurts a lot more falling off of a long board then off of a surf board.

Many people say, surfing is not just a sport, it’s a way of life. What are your thoughts on this?

In my opinion it’s very much a way of life. I didn’t surf to compete as a a sport. Surfing was just a part of my life and something that was done almost on a daily basis.

Funniest surfing story?

My funniest surf story is when I was surfing at a spot called Pillars with my brother. A shark was swimming with us and I accidentally touched it without knowing it was there. I screamed and jumped in the air, pushing my brother off of his surf board.

You’re also really into volunteering. Tell us more about that.

I love to volunteer and do mission work. I went to Mexico this year to build homes for the homeless and a school building and I’m going again this spring. I also like helping to tutor special needs students in local high schools.

You’re from Philly! We have to settle this… Pat’s or Geno’s?

*laughing* OK well to be honest I have to admit I have not had either! I much prefer my cheese steak from a local sandwich shop called Jake’s. I will say I am itching to try Geno’s since it’s so close to me.

You like to make playlists! Which playlist are you currently listening to?

Currently my playlists I have been listening to are my American Eagle – San Francisco Trip, Chasing Summer Time, Upbeat+Summer Sun, and of course the American Eagle store playlist because come on, you guys have great taste in music. All of mine can be found on my Spotify profile.

Do you prefer any specific genre of music?

I prefer anything with a catchy beat and lyrics. Something I can put my dancing shoes on for! But I also feel that music dictates my mood. Sometimes I want to think so I put on mellow indie music or sometimes I want to party and I put on the freshest dance tracks out there. Music is a powerful tool that can change peoples perspectives.

What are some of your favorite bands?

As my music taste is always evolving I have different favorites all the time. But currently here are the bands I am digging: St. Lucia, Bastille, The National, RAC, Fleetwod Mac, Bon Iver, Benny Benassi, Avicii, Deadmau5, U.S. Royalty.

If you could make a playlist for us what would you put on the list?

1. NONONO – Pumpin Blood

2. Say Lou Lou – Julian ( Monsieur Adi Remix)

3. Edward Sharpe – Home (RAC mix)

4. St.Lucia – The Way You Remember Me

5. The Lonely Forest – Coyote

6. Wild Cub – Thunder Clatter

7. Mausi – Sol.

8. Keljet – Love of a Life

9. Young Galaxy – Pretty Boy

10. The Sound of Arrows – Into the Clouds (Mille Remix)

How many playlists have you made to date?

52 and counting…

Meet the Cast: Tommy

Meet Tommy, a rollerblader from Brooklyn, NY and a winner of American Eagle Outfitters Project Live Your Life. Tommy traveled to San Francisco with the cast to be part of the AEO story. Learn more about Tommy on Instagram and Pinterest.

You’re from Brooklyn. Tell us about your city.

Brooklyn is a very diverse part of NYC with all sorts of cultures coming together, giving you a bunch of choices when it comes to food or drinks. It’s very laidback.

Brooklyn is full of amazing culture. What inspires you?

The diversity itself inspires me to go out and see what else the world has to offer. I mean, if there are more than 10 completely different cultures represented where I hang out, I can only dream of the cultures around the country and the world.

You like to play handball. Handball seems like a pretty intense sport. What inspired you to take part?

I guess seeing most of my friends and schoolmates play the game got me into it. I was 11 when I started playing.

Do you have any suggestions or tips for those who want to take a stab at trying the sport?

You have to be quick, agile and learn to have excellent hand eye coordination. Play with friends, play mainly for fun and do use strategy, unless you’re not serious.
