With Spring Break and beach vibes on our mind, we’re ready to feel the sun on our skin and wishing for the warm weather to arrive. Blogger Rachael Proctor from Summer of Diane is helping is kick off shorts season by styling the Vintage Hi-Rise Festival shortie and pairing it back to with shoulder-baring silhouette. We love the Vintage Hi-Rise Festival because of its versatility, whether you’re going for a sport to street or beachy chic look, and durability. Rigid denim is making a comeback in jeans, denim jackets and now – these shorts! “Rachael is the pint-sized, fashion loving, rebel behind the Miami-based style website Summer of Diane. She launched her site after hanging up her hair stylist shears to become a full-time gypsy, having lived on both coasts totaling 5 states in the past 5 years. She has finally settled her roots in Miami, but the constant change solidified her longstanding belief that it’s never too late to start a new adventure. Summer of Diane is where she shares her bohemian beach style, travel inspiration, & passion for all things tropical.”
What Inspired Rachael’s Look:
“Being a self-proclaimed denim short aficionado, I have to admit that these Vintage Hi-Rise Festival Shorties are one of my favorites. I absolutely love that they have zero stretch to the fabric, which makes them feel like genuine vintage shorts. I know we’ve all been conditioned to equate stretch with comfort, but rest assured they are so soft & broken-in, that there is nothing uncomfortable about them. Additionally, I would consider myself fairly petite, standing in at 4’11”, and I love how flattering the Hi-Rise style is on my smaller frame. These shorts have even managed to give me the illusion of having curves, & that my friends, is nothing shy of a miracle.
With festival & outdoor concert season right around the corner, I wanted to put a fun look together to kick start your summer inspiration. I paired the shorts with this feminine lace top because I felt like it was a nice juxtaposition against the ultra-distressed denim. I topped the look off with some whimsical accessories & a pair of chunky platforms. My personal style definitely leans more to the adventurous side than most, but I feel like festival season is the perfect time to experiment with your own look. So have fun, throw some glitter on your face, & pick up a pair of these amazing shorts—You won’t regret it!”

“There’s nothing better than waking up on a day with no formal plans or obligations. Just an open day to do whatever makes my heart happy. No matter how I end up spending my time, I make sure to wear clothing that makes me feel good on the inside and out. This, my friends, is why I love wearing Aerie so much – I feel comfortable, beautiful, and dare I say unstoppable? From practicing yoga to eating popcorn on my couch, here’s a glimpse of how I chill, play, and move as an #AerieREAL girl.”
“I’m one of those people who goes to bed verrrry excited to wake up and make coffee in the morning. It’s therapeutic, and I enjoy the process from grinding the beans to brewing it in my French press. It makes me feel calm as a clam 🌊 – which is how I feel when watering my plant babies. These tiny and seemingly mundane moments can actually be some of the most beautiful little details that make your mood 💯!”
“Consider this a version of mind-play – It’s my job to write, so grabbing my journal and writing down my dreams and ideas is exciting to me. Whether it’s writing song lyrics, full blog posts, or even simple lists, I always appreciate the little dreamstorms. You never know if an idea you have on a rainy Sunday afternoon will turn into something real and substantial someday. Give your mind a break from the constant noise of social media – put pen to paper and see what happens when your mind is at ease and has time to wander. ☁️”
“You gotta move to groove. Exercise doesn’t have to come from a superficial place. Staying active keeps your mind, body and spirit healthy, and that should always be a priority. I feel super energized after a sweaty yoga sesh or a breezy walk around my neighborhood. Find what it is that excites your spirit – maybe it’s rock climbing, biking, or dancing. You don’t have to be a slave to a gym if that’s not your jam. It’s certainly not mine! #YogiProbs” “Aerie empowers women to be who they are in their realest and rawest forms. I love the fit, feel, and look of Aerie’s clothing, and I feel incredible knowing I’m supporting a brand that supports me right back. Celebrating diversity and being vulnerable is what makes us human and what brings us together. That and high-waisted yoga pants.”
The choker necklace made a huge comeback over the past year, and we’re so glad it did. We’ve used this 90s accessory staple to complement everything from bomber jackets to dresses, but now we’re loving a new take on the choker necklace that’s two of our favorite looks in one: the Choker Neck Sweater. Blogger Roshni Patel from Glamarosh styled this two-in-one top with an old Holloywood meets modern-chic feel by layering a long necklace over the choker top and pairing it with block mules. Check out Roshni’s look & what inspired her outfit below.
“Roshni is a Los Angeles-based wardrobe stylist and fashion blogger focusing on trendy and chic affordable looks for every occasion.”
What Inspired Roshni’s Look:
“My choker blush sweater from American Eagle has been my favorite go to this year! The lightweight material makes it easy to layer with a denim jacket or wear as is on those warmer days. Since it was warm enough to ditch the jacket, I paired with a pop of color mules and 70s style sunglasses to add a little fun spark to your cozy essentials. The beauty in this piece is you can dress it up or down for any occasion. For those colder days, the sweater would pair well with a short skirt, OTK boots and a long coat.”
Great taste in music never goes out of style. Classic rock (think Bowie, The Ramones and The Doors) are a staple in pop culture, and we can’t think of a better way to rock the vintage trend than a band tee featuring these timeless artists. Paired with destructed jeans or a denim jacket, the band tee will turn your style all the way up. Blogger Alyssa May styled one of our vintage-inspired Rolling Stones tees with a major festival vibe that speaks her to unique #AEOSTYLE. Check out Alyssa’s outfit featuring the AEO Band Tee below, and if you love her look, find her past post in AEO here.

What Inspired Alyssa’s Look:
“Band tees are on trend at the moment, and I’m LOVING it! They’re super casual and add character to any outfit. And I mean, you can’t go wrong with a band tee and denim shorts, right?! But to add my own personal style to this trend, throwing on a pair of reflective sunnies and a statement coat is the perfect finishing touch!”
