Galentine’s Day Party Guide

Valentine’s Day always renews our nostalgia for handwritten love notes and heart-shaped treats – things worth celebrating regardless of your relationship status, really.  And even better, in our opinion, is February 13th – a.k.a. Galentine’s Day. What’s that, you ask? “Only the best day of the year,” according to Lesley Knope, Galentine’s Day gives us the perfect opportunity to honor the magical combination of friendship and females. This year, why not show your pals some love by hosting your very own Galentine’s party?  We have a few ideas to get you started.

DIY invitations. They’re fun, easy, and who doesn’t love getting snail mail? All you need for these ones are some watercolor paints, paper and markers! Create a watercolor wash by spreading a thin layer of paint across the paper, adding more water as needed for a translucent effect. Use the markers (and your best penmanship) to fill in the deets, and for an added touch, throw some heart-shaped confetti, rose petals, tea bags or candy in the envelope.

Flowers. They make everything prettier. Decorate your tables with some small floral arrangements of your choice. (Pro tip: make enough so that all of your Galentines can take one home!)

Chocolate. And what’s better than chocolate? Pink chocolate! Whip up this impressive treat by melting bars of white chocolate and stirring in freeze-dried raspberries until the chocolate turns a blush-pink shade. Pour the melted mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle on dried culinary rose petals, crushed pistachios, dried raspberries or sugared almonds. Allow the chocolate to set completely and then cut or break it into squares.

Fancy refreshments are a necessity! This hibiscus-rose iced tea is the perfect complement to your DIY pink chocolate. Start by freezing rose buds in water in a large ice cube mold. Brew some hibiscus tea, stir in honey to sweeten and let it chill on ice. Finally, pour in a bottle of rose water (you can find these at Whole Foods) and fill glasses with the tea mixture and the rose-petal-infused ice cubes. Top with extra rose petals and fresh raspberries.

Get creative with your table settings! Arrange your mini bouquets, desserts, drinks, some scented candles, small string lights, or anything else that sets the Galentine’s mood. Turn on the tunes and get the party started!

SHOP IT: Wrap Romper | Denim X4 Hi-Rise Jegging | Vintage Hi-Rise Jean | Choker Neck Sweater

As for your #OOTD, keep your theme going with blush tones and florals. This pretty sweater paired with hi-rise jeans is cozy and perfect for chilling with gal pals. For something a little dressier (but just as comfy), you can’t go wrong with a romper. The flared sleeves and floral print have GIRL POWER written all over them.

The fact is, sometimes life gets in the way of our free time – and scheduling much-needed girl time gets lost in a sea of other (seemingly more important) to-dos. Luckily, Galentine’s Day offers us the perfect reminder to appreciate and prioritize our friends – and the perfect excuse to shower them with love. Happy Galentine’s Day to you!
