Easy dressing: we’ve talked about it before. One of our favorite ways to quickly dress & still look super put-together, effortlessly, is to pop on a romper or dress. One piece wonders get the job done: they’re on trend, comfy and are the ultimate way to channel warm weather vibes. It’s time to spring forward in comfy-cute rompers and wear-everywhere dresses in playful polka dots, picnic-perfect gingham, retro florals, stripes and more. We picked a few of our favorite one piece looks styled by YOU – check them out below! We want to see how you’re styling dresses and rompers, so be sure to show us your look (and tell us why you wear it!) by tagging us and using #WeAllCan on Instagram or Twitter.
The slip dress is one of the year’s most versatile pieces – you can dress it up or down by playing with layers, and whether you’re going for a grunge, boho or classic look, it effortlessly translates into different styles with the help of accessories. Some of our favorite ways to rock a slip dress are over a cropped t-shirt or paired with an oversized cardi. Blogger Sharon Wu from Style Lullaby brought this 90s fave into 2017 with a washed out white jacket and heels. Check out Sharon’s look below featuring the AEO Printed Slip Dress, and if you love her style, you can find her past post here!
“Born & bred in California, Sharon Wu discovered her zest for fashion through modelling at the young age of 17. Since then, she has worked with many creatives in the industry, while developing other passions such as photography, styling, and storytelling. In 2014, she created Style Lullaby as an open, creative space where she combines them all while sharing her personal style, beauty tips, fun life hacks, and more!
When Sharon is not busy shooting campaigns or creating content for Style Lullaby, she can be found at local boutiques, shops, and thrift stores scouring for unique and trendy pieces to style. All work aside, she loves spending time with her Chinese water dragon, Babadook.”
What Inspired Sharon’s Look:
“I’m usually not one for too many prints, but this dress stole my heart the moment I saw it. Firstly, the eyelash lace trim reminded me of the perfect bralette I’ve been looking for to layer under my cozy sweaters! This type of lace is just as flattering on this little number. I can wear an oversized sweater over it, or opt for a knit cardigan… but for this look, I chose to wear AEO’s white denim jacket from last summer’s collection. Since the dress is black, I wanted to bring out the feminine florals & brighten up the look a bit. Lastly, the dress and jacket pairing makes a fairly simple outfit, so I dressed it up with a statement pink bag and nude heels.
Until the sun starts to shine again, I’ll be wearing this dress under my favorite cardigans and sweaters. I love versatile pieces that I can easily style with other loved items in my wardrobe. This one is definitely my latest favorite. Not only is it comfortable to wear and super lightweight, it’s also a fantastic transitional piece from Winter to Spring!”
We love the carefree, effortless feeling that summer brings – less responsibility, more fun! Summer is the time of year when plans can happen on the fly, and you need the quick, pretty #AEOSTYLE to match. One of our favorite ways to put together a spontaneous outfit is by slipping on a one-and-done piece like a dress or romper. This season offers one of our biggest dress assortments yet, so it’s the perfect time to check out everything from our shift dresses to rompers to maxi dresses. Plus, you’ll find styles to fit any look, like an edgy romper or a polished pattern maxi dress. Make it work with your individual #AEOSTYLE! Keep reading to see how AEO will dress up your summer.
Whether you’re visiting NYC, Austin or Chicago for one of the major music festivals or keeping it low-key and heading to a local concert, a flirty, boho romper is always a top choice. Festival outfitting is all about the accessories, so an understated romper with small details like the bow on the one-piece below will allow you to amp up your festival style. Layer on necklaces, rings and bracelets, and don’t forget a pair of sunglasses. Lately, we’re loving trendy round shape. Finish the look with a fringe bag that will hold your wallet, cell and, of course, a retro camera!
Brunch With Friends
Kick off the summer season by grabbing your friends for amazing food. Summer menus are popping up at all of our favorite restaurants, and brunch is the best excuse to catch up with friends while eating some mind-blowing waffles. Since brunch is usually relaxed, you’ll want a soft, feminine look to match. Pair a floral maxi dress with a wide-brim straw hat for a vacation-vibe. A faux-leather handbag in a neutral color will hold all of the necessities, like cat-eye sunglasses and lip balm.
Flea Market Browsing
Refresh your #AEOSTYLE and your interior design! Head to a local flea market to find a hidden gem. A casual, free-spirited look is great for wandering around outside. Be sure to take a light jacket that you can carry on your shoulder or pop on if it gets chilly in the morning. A comfortable pair of fun, patterned shoes adds interest to finish the look. Don’t forget a carry-all bag!
Hang at the Park
If you want to have a chill day but still take advantage of beautiful summer weather (and, let’s be real, show off this adorable look), plan a day at the park. Take a blanket, snacks and light reading material to carry you through the afternoon. This floral romper is vibrant and sweet, and the shorts silhouette will allow you to move around all day with ease. We’re all about the cold-shoulder lately, so feel free to work on that summer tan! Pull on a pair of bright white sneakers to complete the look.
Every girl needs a statement dress for the summer and the Crochet Tier Maxi Dress is without a doubt that piece. With its soft cotton gauze fabric and crocheted details, it strikes the perfect balance of classic and bohemian.
Poor Little It Girl is a shopping and personal style blog by me, Cathy Anderson, with a focus on keeping things under $100. My mission is to show that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to find fashionable and quality items to stay stylish! Poor Little It Girl began in the summer of 2010 while living in NYC and has since become a perfect representation of who I am: a twenty-eight year old former fashion magazine editor turned Washingtonian that wants great clothing that all us “poor” girls can actually afford.
What Inspired Cathy’s Look:
“I wanted my look to be casual, easy, but still put together. So whether it was adding on a head wrap, a bold red lip or a structured bag – I loved the mix up of put together and bohemian vibes in one!”

“Floral dresses are a staple every fashionista needs in their wardrobe this spring. This one, by American Eagle, feels fresh and girly, and swishes gently as you walk… or dance! I wore it with brown strappy heels and a jean jacket, but you can totally wear yours on a sunny spring day with sandals, hat and an oversized tote.”
Take your #AEOSTYLE to the max this spring! A true essential to every girls’ closet, the Maxi Dress is both effortless and chic.
What Inspired Mara’s Look:
“Maxi dresses are great in spring because they’re seasonal but will keep your legs warm if you get an unexpected spring chill. I always hate when I pull out a cute spring mini and then it’s a windy day. I love the bohemian print on this maxi from AE. It’s perfect for music festivals or weekend brunch dates with friends!”
