DIY Ugly Sweater For Last Minute Holiday Parties

Holiday party season is in full swing, and there’s always a chance you might get a last minute invite to one this weekend (or already have one on the calendar!). It seems like every year holiday parties require the best (or worst?) ugly sweater attire, so if you’re scrambling for a quick outfit to wear out this weekend, we can help. All you need are a few quick decorations and tools, most of which you probably already have on hand. Keep reading for our step-by-step guide to making a DIY Ugly Sweater for last minute holiday parties.

What You Need:

1. Find the perfect sweater. We like our Ahhhmazingly Soft Jegging Sweater (pictured) or the Raglan V-Neck Sweater. Bright colors are best to really make your look stand out!

2. Start with some tinsel. Use your hot glue gun or fabric glue to add some fun texture and depth to your sweater. In this case, the crazier it looks, the better!

3. Glue on seasonal patches or pins. Grab your DCI Ugly Sweater Kit or pins, or make your own cutout holiday shapes from thick fabric like felt or fleece. Glue the patches over the tinsel for a 3-D effect.

4. Add your finishing touches. Take your sweater over-the-top and add finishing touches like mirror balls (you could even use ornaments here) and throw a necklace on top – extra points if your sweater lights up!

Home For The Holidays Packing Guide

Whether you’re going home for winter break or visiting family for the holiday season, our packing guide will have you prepared!

LAY EVERYTHING OUT

Before you start packing things into your suitcase, lay them on your bed so you can see what you have set out. This will help you remember things you may be forgetting and can help with chronic over-packing.

Here’s what we’ve packed: Slipper | Lace Keyhole Triangle Bralette | Real Soft® Flannel Sleep Pant | Cable Sweater Jogger | Boucle Turtleneck Sweater | AEO Sateen X Hi-Rise Jegging | AEO Sweater All Weather Boot | Hand Knit Beanie | Hi-Rise Play Legging | Cable Pullover Sweater | Fuzzy Scarf | Aerie Sparkle Crew Socks | Swedish Hasbeens Husband Clog | Lace Longline Bralette | Shine Cheeky + Lace | Boyshort | Cheeky + Shine Waistband

BEGIN WITH THE BASICS

Don’t spend so much time planning your outfits that you forget the basics. Start with your some cute undies, a versatile bralette, warm socks, and your PJs. These are the things you’ll most likely spend the most time in.

DRESS FOR THE WEATHER

It’s always helpful to check the weather for  your destination. Remember to bring warm clothes and cold weather accessories when needed. Packing the proper shoes is important. Always have an extra pair of weather-friendly shoes.

CHECK IT TWICE

Once you have everything laid out, check your haul twice. After you have everything set to go, pack it up in your suitcase. Keep a carry-on or backpack out for last minute additions.

#RealWishes Recap: How We Gave Back

This December has been all about #RealWishes. We’ve been giving back in our community and encouraging our girls to join in and help make a difference, no matter how big or small.

We kicked off our project by asking our girls to share their #RealWishes with us, and Iskra surprised our winners with a PJ party. Congrats again to the Sigma Kappa Theta Theta chapter at Albright College! These girls give back to their community all year with monthly visits to their local senior living home, and we were so excited to celebrate them.

Check out more of our #RealWishes below!

1. #RealWishes & REAL dogs!

We collected pet toy and supply donations for Animal Friends, then hosted a puppy break with adoptable and therapy dogs.

2. Sweet break at the University of Pittsburgh

We surprised Pitt students with a much-needed coffee and sweets break during finals week.

3. Mini Christmas trees at the Ronald McDonald House

Families stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their kids receive treatment at Children’s Hospital, and many will still be there over the holidays. We brought dinner and mini Christmas trees for them to decorate so they could feel a little piece of home while they’re away during tough times.

4. Local women’s shelters

We visited two Pittsburgh women’s shelters this month. We brought cozy accessories and sweet treats to the first group of women, and treated the next group to care packages and manicures.
