Happy new year! Our 2015 is off to an awesome start and we hope yours is, too. These are some of our favorite things to kick off the year. How are you heading into 2015?

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: INTO THE WOODS
Whether or not you know or have ever seen the show, this movie is a must see. The all-star cast (led by Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Meryl Streep) take you through some of the most well-known fairytales (including Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella)… but, as you’ll soon find out, everything is not as it seems. As Cinderella’s Prince, Pine’s rendition of Agony (sung with Rapunzel’s Prince, Billy Magnussen) is especially hilarious.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: BORNS
We can’t get enough as of late with this Michigan born and bred (but now LA dwelling) singer, whose blend of folk, glam and electro rock makes us feel like we’re living inside a dream. (In the best way possible, of course.) Make sure to download his EP, Candy.

WHAT WE’RE READING: BLOGLOVIN’
Need a way to keep all your blogs under one online roof? Bloglovin’ is SO the way to go. This blog reader organizes every post into a feed that you can scroll through all together or break up by individual blog, making it super easy to read all your favorite sites at a glance. (Plus it’s such an easy way to follow both this blog and our Tumblr, meaning you’ll never miss out on anything happening right here at AEO.)

WHERE WE’RE GOING: LOS ANGELES
The City of Angels is calling our name right now (probably because as we type this it’s only 17 degrees outside at our Pittsburgh home office headquarters). But in all fairness, L.A. has tons of awesome stuff to do and see. Catch a game or a concert at the Staples Center, go shopping on Abbot Kinney in Venice, stroll along the pier in Santa Monica, catch the waves in Malibu, be super touristy and go to Graumann’s Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame… there’s something for everyone (and tons of neighborhoods to explore).

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: HYPERLAPSE
In a word? O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D. Turn all of your videos into a work of art with this app, which make it so easy to create time lapse videos (and to upload them to Instagram). Truth be told, we’re pretty much spending all our free time making them.

WHAT WE’RE EATING/DRINKING: DETOX SMOOTHIES
Whether your NYE was full of debauchery or you just hit the cookies a little too hard over the holidays, there’s no time like the present to do a little detoxing. And what better (and more delicious) way to do that than with a detox smoothie? We’re especially loving the idea of a blueberry and avocado smoothie. Just blend it with a banana, cucumber, spinach and coconut water and voila: instant refreshment (and good for your body antioxidants to boot).

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: DESTROYED JEANS
Really want to break into 2015? You need a new pair of destroyed jeans. Ripped, repaired, mended, stitched, faded, distressed, patched… the more destroyed your jeans are this year, the better.

7 things we love: Holiday Edition

{ Image Source: 1. | 1. | 1. | 1. L. to R. | 2. | 3. | 4. | 5. | 6. | 7. | }

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We’re getting in the spirit with a holiday-themed edition of 7 Things We Love. So grab a glass of eggnog, settle down in front of the fireplace and check out our top picks for the season (and be sure to let us know your favorite holiday things, too).

Wake Up In Fun PJ’s
There’s nothing better than waking up on Christmas morning (or, okay, any winter day really) in a set of really fun pajamas. For girls, we’re totally loving our Fair Isle Knit Legging (currently sold out online, but check your closest AEO for availability), especially when it’s paired with a too cute for words sequined penguin sweatshirt. And for guys, we can’t get enough of buffalo check this season (the “Iced Out” graphic on the T just adds to the festive feel).

Give An AEO Gift Card To Someone Special
Still stumped over what to buy for your brother/sister/mom/dad/BFF/etc? Why not give an AEO Gift Card? Whether you choose a traditional card, an E-Gift Card or a Mobile Gift Card, they’re always the perfect gift for everyone on your list. We’ve created tons of fun designs for them this year, and you can even personalize a digital greeting for the recipient! Just visit ae.com/giftcard from your phone to include a voice or text message with the card.

Download The Elf Stickers on Facebook Messenger
Want to make the Facebook messages you send a little more fun? The Elf stickers (yes, inspired by your favorite human elf) will have you laughing and messaging up a storm. All of the best lines from the movie are included, from “Santa! I know him!” and “I just like to smile!” to “You sit on a throne of lies!” and “I’m a cotton headed ninny muggins.” The only problem? You might get addicted to sending them.

Listen to “That’s Christmas To Me” By Pentatonix
Honestly? It’s hard to even choose a favorite song from this album. The intricate harmonies and awesome voices of this five-person a cappella group soar over some of the most loved Christmas songs and give them a fresh new twist. We’re especially digging “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” “Sleigh Ride” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”—but, really, you can’t go wrong with any of the songs on this album.

DIY A Hot Chocolate Bar
Come on, who doesn’t love hot chocolate on a cold winter day? We know we do. We scoured Pinterest this year for ideas on how to turn an empty space into a hot cocoa wonderland. Buy some marshmallows, cinnamon and peppermint sticks, some fancy mugs and maybe a stocking or two (oh, and lots of hot cocoa, of course)… and get ready to do some serious chocolate drinking!

Read How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Is it really the holidays without this gem by Dr. Seuss? It’s one of the most loved Christmas stories for a reason. So travel to Whoville with the grouchy, grumpy Grinch and go along on his journey toward discovering what Christmas is really about.

Watch Love Actually
We don’t know about you, but the holidays really haven’t begun until we watch this star-studded movie of intersecting plots and characters, filled with the spirit of joy, giving and love. (Not to mention a killer dance scene by Hugh Grant.) It warms our hearts more and more every year!

7 things we love…

Welcome to this week’s edition of 7 Things We Love! Get inspired by all the things inspiring US right now, from what we’re reading and eating to what we’re wearing and listening to. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: THE AEO SWING TANK DRESS
We’re all about easy, effortless dressing—especially when we can take a piece from boho to moto with a few simple accessories or the addition of a leather biker jacket. And this dress is one that lets us do it all. We love the bold stripes and the swingy silhouette, especially since it’s forgiving—which means we can eat all the cookies we want…

WHAT WE’RE EATING: GLUTEN FREE PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
…Which leads us right to our next love. These. Cookies. Are. Everything. Now that it’s officially fall, we’re craving all things pumpkin—and these are a great way to satisfy our sweet tooth while still, shockingly, not being too unhealthy. Pumpkin’s full of good-for-you stuff like beta-carotine and fiber, but don’t let that fool you—these taste delicious.

WHAT WE’RE READING: FANGIRL BY RAINBOW ROWELL
Now that we’ve read (and are still obsessing over) Rowell’s Eleanor & Park, we’ve been devouring everything else she’s written. Fangirl is written in a similar style but this time follows Cath (short for Cather), a college freshman who writes widely followed fan fiction, has an identical twin and, in short, is struggling to figure out who she really is in the world. While the passages of Cath’s fan fiction seem a bit extraneous (and, if we’re being honest, we ended up skimming them), the story in between is sweet, honest and funny.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: GONE GIRL
We’re pretty sure we don’t need to give you a synopsis of one of the most widely hyped, must-see movies of the year. So we’ll just say that we’re going to be first in line to see it. It stars Ben Affleck as the protagonist/antagonist and promises to be just as thrilling and captivating as the book (that pretty much never leaves the bestseller list).

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: THE PARTYPARTY APP
Not only is this app one of the easiest to use EVER, but it’s SO. MUCH. FUN. You can select 4, 9, 16 or literally infinity photos to upload from your camera roll and put into a slideshow that’s shareable on Instagram, Facebook and even your blog. (Definitely good news for Blogger users.) You can add filters, you can add different frames, you can control the slideshow speed. Basically, it’s a party in your pocket.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: ELEVATE BY ST. LUCIA
Want a unique throwback sound with a modern feel… that almost sounds like you’re listening to Phil Collins and Genesis, but in a totally new way? This feel-good song will make you dance in your seat and will put the biggest smile on your face. Guaranteed.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: THE HUDSON VALLEY
Want a really great view of fall foliage? The Hudson Valley is where it’s at. A drive through upstate New York is breathtakingly beautiful in the fall thanks to the leaves changing colors on the trees. There’s a ton to do here, from a visit to the little town of Nyack (filled with cute boutiques and restaurants) to the Mohonk Mountain House, where you can go hiking or visit the spa. There are farmer’s markets and places to go apple picking scattered all over the area, too.

7 things we love…

After an exhausting (but amazing!) weekend at the Budweiser Made in America music festival, we’re back with another roundup that we put together just for you of all the things inspiring us right now, from what we’re reading and eating to what we’re wearing and listening to. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: DR. MARTENS
They’re been a cult classic for decades… and for good reason. Docs, as they’re more colloquially known, bring together every subculture from emo to punk. We’re super excited to be featuring them on our site for the very first time, and we’re totally digging the iconic 1460s in bold floral for girls and rugged leather for guys.

WHAT WE’RE EATING: COCONUT OIL, HONEY AND SEA SALT POPCORN
Is there anything better or more delicious than a bag of freshly popped popcorn? We think not. Snuggle up on the couch for a movie marathon with a bag of this tasty treat, which is not only super easy to make but perfect for savory and sweet lovers alike with its mix of coconut oil, honey and Himalayan pink sea salt.

WHAT WE’RE READING: DOROTHY MUST DIE BY DANIELLE PAIGE
The Wizard of Oz is one of those stories that seems to pop up in everyday conversation at least once. Think about it. Well, this book spins the story into a whole new tornado with its lead character, Amy Gumm, whose sole mission after being recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked is to—you guessed it—make sure everyone’s favorite Ruby Slippers-wearing heroine, well, dies.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: CANDIDLY NICOLE
We’ve been fairly obsessed with Nicole Richie ever since she first appeared on The Simple Life with Paris Hilton. And ever since, her various clothing and accessory lines have catapulted her into fashion super stardom (not to mention the fact that she constantly sets beauty trends). But it’s this show, with gems like her dad (yes, the one and only Lionel Richie) trying to teach her how to parallel park, that has us loving her more than ever.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: THE B612 APP BY LINE
Let’s “face” it… everyone takes selfies. Well, this app, which uses only your phone’s front-facing camera, is out to change them for the good, better, best. You can take a photo by touching any part of the screen and perfect it with 43 different photo filters. Oh, and it doesn’t make a shutter sound, so no one has to know what you’re really up to while you hold your phone in front of your face. Now come on, #letstakeaselfie.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: ANOTHER STORY BY THE HEAD AND THE HEART
Melancholy. Sweet. Romantic. Endearing. This song is all that and more. You know the quirky love story, Juno? That’s what this indie folk band from Seattle makes us think of every time we play it.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: THE JERSEY SHORE
Summer may be officially over, but we’re pretending it isn’t with one last trip to the beach. Whether you want to party like your favorite (least favorite?) friends from MTV’s now-kaput show or not, the Jersey Shore offers a little something for everyone. Spend a day at Six Flags Great Adventure, take in a minor league baseball game, visit a lighthouse, go out to the clubs, stroll up and down the boardwalk, just relax on the beach… it’s pretty obvious you’re bound to have a good time no matter what.

7 things we love…

music, books, travel, foodie, aeostyle

Welcome to this week’s edition of 7 Things We Love! Get inspired by all the things inspiring US right now, from what we’re reading and eating to what we’re wearing and listening to. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: OUR NEW VINTAGE DENIM COLLECTION
Here’s the thing. We really, really, REALLY love jeans. And we’re always coming up with ways to put new twists on all your favorite staples. To that end, we just introduced our new Vintage Denim Collection, which is crafted from our very best fabrics for superior quality and durability. With details like destruction, tinting, sanding and nicking, these jeans are made to look and feel like the favorite pair you’ve had for years. Find Vintage now in some of your favorite fits, from Jegging for girls to Slim Straight for guys.

WHAT WE’RE EATING: BLUEBERRY SALTED CARAMEL POPSICLES
There really isn’t a better way to feel refreshed and happy in the heat of summer than with a popsicle, #amiright? We’re loving this take on the hot day treat from The Healthy Maven, which takes antioxidant-rich (and always delicious) blueberries and pairs them with a gluten-free recipe for homemade popsicles. (The caramel? It’s actually made out of dates!)

WHAT WE’RE READING: SINNER BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER
This is the latest book in Stiefvater’s The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and just like all the rest, WE. ARE. HOOKED. This series focuses on a pack of werewolves who are human in the summertime and turn into wolves in the wintertime. (It’s WAY better than Twilight, we promise.) Sinner centers in on former rockstar Cole and his girlfriend Isabel (and it’s completely and totally addictive). Read the whole series. You won’t be disappointed. (Oh, and you might want your boyfriend to turn into a werewolf.)

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: STEP UP ALL IN
The newest movie to hit the Step Up franchise promises to be bigger and better than ever before. More tricks, more dancing, more of the faces from the previous movies that you’ve come to know and love (plus some So You Think You Can Dance favorites/alumni/obsessions like Twitch and Cyrus). Bring on the poppin’ and lockin’.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: SIA’S CHANDELIER MUSIC VIDEO
Okay, we have to admit, this was a tough one. We’ve had both this music video and Pharrell’s Come Get It Bae playing on repeat in the office (and our homes) for the past week and a half. But Sia’s got the edge thanks to the fact that she used 11-year-old dancer/wunderkind/all around awesome Maddie Ziegler (yes, one of the girls from Dance Moms) as the star. (The song is pretty awesome, too.) We can’t get enough of Ziegler’s creepy/cool dance moves in this haunting video.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: MESS IS MINE BY VANCE JOY
Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy (AKA James Keogh) has officially stolen our music-loving hearts with this song from his latest album, “Dream Your Life Away.” Joy combines folk with pop to create a unique sound that we find ourselves listening to over and over (and over) again.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: MIAMI
From the art-covered Wynwood Walls (where we shot our spring break campaign) to the ridiculously gorgeous sandy beaches and nothing-like-it-anywhere-else nightlife, Miami’s got plenty for you to do and see. Go surfing in South Beach, get a little nature happy at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, hit the clubs… just make sure you come back with a tan.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING:  AEO EMBROIDERED TOTE
The bold geometric design and metallic embellishments make this tote the one we’re grabbing for everything from beach vacays to brunch dates. It’s just roomy enough to hold all our essentials, but designed in a subtly flat silhouette that doesn’t overwhelm you.

WHAT WE’RE DRINKING:  MINT ARNOLD PALMERS
There is just nothing more refreshing in the summer than a big glass of ice cold lemonade. But we’re taking ours to the next level by combining it with green tea, honey and sprigs of mint. The result? The beverage you won’t be able to stop drinking for the rest of the summer.

WHAT WE’RE READING:  IF I STAY BY GAYLE FORMAN
What if you had the opportunity to decide whether you stayed on Earth… or left it behind? 17-year-old cellist, Mia, is in a car accident with her family that, impossibly enough, leaves her this choice. What follows is a beautiful, heartwrenching story about love, loss and the difficult choices we all have to make in our lives. Be sure to read this book before the movie, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, comes out on August 22.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:  VERY GOOD GIRLS
We’ve been excited about this movie since we first heard that it was filming. Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen (AKA Mary Kate & Ashley’s sister) star as two girls in NYC who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school… and then both fall for the same guy. We bet we’ll beat you to the concession stand.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING:  BROKEN AGE
If hand painting, sci-fi/fantasy/adventure and iPad games aren’t your thing, maybe the fact that this one is voiced by Elijah Wood and Jack Black will make you take a second look. The gamer in us is pretty excited to play this one.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO:  FIFTEEN BY GOLDROOM
LA-based Goldroom combines emotive choruses, soulful rhythms and lush electronic ornaments to create a sound that’s somehow a throwback to the 90’s with a totally modern feel. The lyrics of this song, which features Chela, really speak for themselves: “It’s been a long time, wondering why/the summer smells like sin and wonder/Feels like it got inside of a place and time/I dream about when I get a walk in”

WHERE WE’RE GOING:  SAN DIEGO
From the world acclaimed San Diego Zoo to Legoland, there’s a little something for everyone in the balmy paradise that is San Diego. Plus the weather is pretty darn awesome, pretty much all the time. (Okay, okay… and we can’t help but think of Will Ferrell talking about how San Diego’s name came to be in Anchorman.)
