STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY

Festival season starts soon and our stylist knows what you’re wearing! Pack light and bring layers to take your looks from sunshine to fun after dark.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #1 Trade Your Top For A Bralette

Start with your Castaway Crop Tank, then lose it when the sun shines and rock your Castaway Lace Longline Bandeau on its own—this new lace is too pretty to keep underneath anyways! Add extra layers on top with an easy woven Kimono, and keep it breezy on the bottom with a Harem Pant. 4 outfits in one to keep you covered (or not!) for anything your festival days bring.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #2 Layers Layers Layers

The music will be great but you never know about the weather—pack your layers so you’re ready for any temp. We’re all about bandeaus this season, and this Crochet Lace Padded Bandeau gives you the same option to rock it on its own as a top. Take the straps off for sunshine and work on your tan, then cover up when the sun goes down with AE’s Classic Light Wash Denim Jacket.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY#3 Remember Your #AerieSWIM

You never know when a Slip ‘N Slide is going to pop up… trade your intimates for your #AerieSWIM and be the first one on! Wear your Crochet Scoop Bikini Top and Macramé Hipster Bottom under your Lace Top Coverup for the sunniest festival days.STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #4 Tell A Color Story

Pack light and bring things that are in the same color story so it’s easy to mix and match depending on the day. Wear this Swing Tank with matching Shortie in the same pretty blues, and keep it easy underneath with a neutral wireless bra. Last but never least—add something extra! Accessorize with Raising the Bar Sunnies and a Top Knot Headband.

Designer Interview: Sarah Day

Bohemian, or as many refer to as boho, is a style that can sometimes be difficult to describe. Why? Because its can mean something different to everyone. It’s unique and that’s why we love it. Dubbed the “Boho Queen” by her team (for very good reason!) our Associate Design Director of Dresses, Skirts & Woven Shirts, Sarah sat down with us to discuss all things bohemian and where she draws her inspiration from.

Name & occupation:
Sarah Day, Associate Design Director of Dresses, Skirts & Woven Shirts

Where are you from?
Portsmouth, UK

Where did you draw inspiration from for the boho trend?
My life experiences – I love to travel. Everywhere I travel, I always buy clothing, accessories and things for my home. My home is my bohemian sanctuary full of treasures I find.

The boho trend is known for being carefree and casual; can you tell us how you would transform this look from day to night?
Add a ton of accessories – you can never have too much jingle when it comes to jewelry! I personally can’t live without my collection of vintage Native American turquoise jewelry.  It’s always the finishing touch for all my boho clothing and I definitely use it to take me from day to night.

I always invest in jackets, bags & shoes. Great accessories and outerwear can make an inexpensive dress or outfit look more expensive and take your outfit from day to night. Boho is about pulling together pieces and putting it together in a different way. I love white feminine dresses worn with boots or a washed black favorite tee with destroyed denims and a ton of turquoise jewelry. It’s about pretty and tough – mixing lace with leather, mixing vintage and new.

The best way to describe bohemian style and taking it from day to night is – it’s about being unique, being yourself & putting outfits together in a way that lets the world see your personality through your clothing. You should never feel too done up or too put together. Boho should feel effortless and your choices in accessories can really make you stand out from the crowd.

What are your 3 favorite boho pieces from this season’s collection?
Hi-Lo Boho Maxi Dress (Similar: Printed Empire Maxi Dress)
Boho Embroidered Tank (Similar: High Neck Embroidered Tank) with Hi-Rise Festival Shortie
Printed Pintuck Tank (Similar: Embroidered Crossback Tank)

I’m a sucker for talent shows! I love it when the underdog is really talented and win. At the moment, it’s America’s Got Talent, but my favorites are X Factor & American Idol.

If you weren’t working in fashion, what would you be doing?
Lion tamer! No, seriously, I’d work for the ASPCA to help rescue animals.

What are 3 words to describe your personal style?
Bohemian, feminine, western and turquoise jewelry. Sorry, I need 4!

Favorite place you’ve ever visited on vacation?
Tulum, Mexico (See my most recent visit above!)

If you hosted a dinner party with a favorite style icon, who would you invite?
Stevie Nicks

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Choose a job you love! When I was young my Dad encouraged me to pick what I love (clothes) and make it my career, which was the best advice ever. I LOVE designing dresses and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
