Aerie ❤ Solstice In Times Square

We kicked off the official start to summer the best way we knew how to: celebrating our #AerieREAL girls and our Chill. Play. Move.™ collection at Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness Yoga! Did we mention it was also International Yoga Day and National Selfie Day? Yep. OHM-amazing.

Read on to see some of our fave photos from the day, meet our #AerieREAL yogis and shop Chill. Play. Move.™ sports bras and leggings for your next yoga sesh.

Aerie ❤ Solstice In Times Square

We kicked off the AM and got in the #AerieREAL mindset with a Real Talk by Aerie Role Model, Iskra. Then one of our fave NYC yogis, Kathryn Budig, took the stage for a wellness segment about body positivity followed by a quick meditation.

Between each yoga class throughout the day, thousands of attendees were invited to visit Yoga Village. At the Aerie tent, we celebrated with flash tats, a photo booth and a peek at our latest Chill. Play. Move.™ collection.

Aerie ❤ Solstice In Times Square

Aerie x Solstice Sweepstakes winner Katie brought BFF Andi to NYC to celebrate the start of summer! The two spent the day enjoying yoga classes, meditation and wellness in Times Square.

Later in the morning, NYC was treated to an #AerieREAL Empowered Flow by AEO’s very own Senior Manager of Digital Creative, Catherine Gignac! This yogi does it all, and her energy and positivity were so inspiring.

#AerieREAL <3 All Woman Project

We’re so excited to support the All Woman Project on their new campaign and celebrate REAL, unretouched beauty in all women. Started last year by Charli Howard and Clémentine Desseaux, the project aims to challenge the “standard” definition of beauty as shown in fashion and the media. Beauty doesn’t come in one size or color, and the All Woman Project reflects that by featuring a diverse group of women with different body types, ethnicities and ages.

#AerieREAL <3 All Woman ProjectPartnering with these amazing women was an easy decision for our brand. Like the beautiful images in the All Woman Project, all Aerie images feature 100% unretouched women. Beyond no retouching, #AerieREAL is our commitment to empowering and inspiring confidence in all girls, inside and out.

As always, love the REAL you!

Real Talk with Lauren Scruggs

“Real beauty truly comes from accepting yourself fully.” Lauren Scruggs is #AerieREAL! Her strength and beauty inspire us every day, and her latest books show how she relates to girls everywhere. Read on below to learn more about Lauren, what #AerieREAL means to her and her picks for the holidays season.

Real Talk with Lauren Scruggs

Hi, Lauren! Thank you for chatting with us!

How did your personal experiences help shape your body positive message?

After losing my hand and an eye, I was faced with acceptance. It has been a process, but after four years, I am confident in my scars and my body, knowing that they are a part of what has made me who I am. My body now reflects my story, which is beautiful because it’s bigger than the shallow external; it’s a tool to bring hope and encouragement to others!

What’s your advice to girls to find their inner strength and confidence?

After my physical appearance shifted drastically, I realized quickly that the worth I put in outward beauty did not sustain. As those around me still saw me as beautiful when I didn’t feel like I matched that adjective, it proved that beauty is truly internal.

Wow! That’s really amazing and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing.

Now onto a holiday note: we can’t wait to spend time with friends and family. Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?

Snuggling up to Christmas movies, making hot chocolate, baking often to Christmas tunes, playing dominoes or card games, and being around people I love!

What is your favorite holiday movie?

“Miracle on 34th St” and “The Santa Claus” are my two all time favorites.

What’s on your wish list this year?

Cozy pullovers for those chilly LA nights, new slippers, and a lightweight robe to lounge in!

How do you give back over the holidays?

We love inviting people over who don’t have a place to go for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and we have a mission to be extra generous (the way that plays out looks different every day!).

Real Talk with Lauren Scruggs

How are you getting cozy this holiday?

Those closest to me know that I change faster from my normal clothes into sweatpants than anyone when I get home. The perfectly snuggly clothes encourage my homebody mentality, and having the ability to feel cozy and “at home” in public is as real as it gets for me.

Do you have any advice to leave with our girls?

There is no benefit in comparing yourself to other girls. The most freeing thing is to be who you are and pursue your passions fearlessly!

DIY Brightening Face Mask

We’re back with another post from CHAARG (Changing Health, Attitudes & Actions to Recreate Girls). To help you make this summer your happiest and healthiest yet, CHAARG girl Morgan brings you this DIY face mask that we wish we could eat for breakfast, too! Stay tuned for more fun health and workout tips.

DIY BRIGHTENING FACE MASK

At CHAARG, we are firm believers in treating yourself! Whether it’s a pint of ice cream or a mani-pedi spa day, it’s important to take time for YOU. So for those summer nights when you want to sit in your PJs and pamper yourself, we have just the treat: DIY Brightening Face Mask!

Spa products can be super expensive (and not to mention, full of unnatural chemicals and additives), so we’re fans of making our masks at home with natural ingredients so you know exactly what’s going into them. Chances are, you have most of the ingredients on hand!

Being out in the summer sun can hurt your skin, so this exfoliating and brightening face mask will help hydrate your face and rub away dead skin, leaving your face feeling brighter, glowing and gorgeous—just like you!

INGREDIENTS

1 cup plain Greek yogurt

¼ cup rolled oats*

¼ cup brown sugar**

1 TBSP honey*** (melted)

1 TBSP coconut oil (melted)

1 small- to medium-sized Mason jar for storage

*For more of a healing mask, add in extra oats to soothe your skin.

**For more of a scrubbing mask, add more sugar to the mixture.

***For best results, use raw honey.

DIY Brightening Face Mask

WHY WE LOVE THEM

All of the ingredients in this face mask have amazing skin benefits!

Greek yogurt—moisturizer/skin brightener

Greek yogurt works well with dry, sensitive skin and is perfect for scrubbing away dead skin cells. It also fights against acne.

Oats—revitalizer

The oats act as a revitalizing agent that, like Greek yogurt, treats acne. Although the oats themselves don’t lubricate the skin, when paired with a moisturizer, they help your skin retain moisture and give it pretty, glowing shine.

Brown Sugar—exfoliant

You’ve probably seen sugar scrubs at every spa and beauty supply store you’ve been to, and for good reason. Sugar is the best scrub for your face, and when applied to the skin, it reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, exposing live skin cells and allowing your skin to become even more moisturized.

Honey—healing agent

Not only does honey taste great, but it helps you get glowing skin for the summer. It has natural healing properties, and like oats, it helps the skin retain moisture, allowing your skin to feel suppler. Because honey absorbs impurities from pores on the skin, it can also be used as a part of an acne regimen.

Coconut oil—moisturizer

Coconut oil works as a moisturizer, and when combined with an exfoliating agent like the brown sugar, it scrapes off excess dead skin and cleans out blocked pores.

TIME TO TREAT YOURSELF!

The great thing about this recipe is that it’s super quick. All you need is a food processor (or a blender), which means easy cleanup too!

1] Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth/creamy.

2] Spoon into a mason jar. The mixture can be stored in the fridge for as long as the date on the Greek yogurt is good!

3] Using your hands (get ready to get messy!), begin spreading the mixture across your face. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

4] Using warm water on a washcloth, begin scrubbing the mixture off your face, moving your hands in a circular motion to wipe the mixture off.

5] Hello, beautiful skin!

Let us know what you think of the face mask by tagging us on Instagram @CHAARG with the hashtag #inCHAARG. And remember to take care of your skin this summer, girls!

Follow Her Friday: Rachel Hollis

This week we’re inspired by the courageous, career-driven, body-loving blogger, Rachel Hollis! Her proud bikini photo received tons of media buzz and we couldn’t help but want to learn more about this beautiful, mother of three.

Aerie: We love your body positive message – what inspired you to share this photo with your readers?

Rachel: So many reporters asked me this and the answer is kind of silly. I theme my Instagram every month to a color and that month’s color was orange… the exact shade of my cute new bikini top. We were in Cancun and I thought it would be a cute picture and so I had hubs snap a bunch. I am no kind of model and being in a swimsuit feels especially awkward so the one I chose is the one where I’m laughing at how silly I felt. When I saw it I noticed my stretch marks right away but I figured plenty of my followers are moms and have them too so I just decided to post it anyway. I couldn’t have anticipated what would happen with that picture, it still blows my mind.

Aerie Follow Her Friday: Rachel Hollis - Body Positive message

Aerie: How did you get started with The Chic Site?

Rachel: I was an event planner for ten years in Los Angeles and initially I started The Chic Site as a virtual way to house all my ideas. At the time I thought people would want to see pictures from fancy parties but what I quickly learned was that they were much more interested in recipes and parties from my own real life. When I started to focus on my personal style (down home with a little fancy thrown in) that’s when the site really started to gain a following.

Aerie: What’s your favorite part about running a lifestyle website?

Rachel: There are a lot of things to love. I’m my own boss, which is a great feeling. And I work with an incredibly talented group of people that I got to hand pick. In the words of Confucius, “Choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Also, I truly love the idea that we’re being helpful to women who read our site. Whether it’s a recipe, a makeup tip or a tutorial on how to decorate your bedroom I want our readers to come away feeling inspired and encouraged.

Aerie: Do you have any advice you would give to girls interested in starting their own blog or business?

Rachel: Be yourself, everyone else is already taken. Seriously, there are so many businesses and blogs out there and the only way you’re going to make a splash is with a genuine message that is authentically you. Also, if you want to start a business you can’t treat it as a hobby. A lot of new bloggers decide to throw up a post here or there without structure behind it. Build an editorial calendar, collaborate with people smarter than you, take yourself seriously and others will to.

Aerie: Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?

Rachel: There is no such thing as luck, there is only preparation meeting opportunity at a moment in time.

Aerie: What’s your favorite Aerie product?

Rachel: I love a great t-shirt but I am such a sucker for a summer sweater! Haha, only in LA would someone consider the term summer sweater but it’s a real thing! You know the kind with a loose weave or the ones that are so light it’s like wearing cotton? I love them! It’s a way to feel cozy even if the weather is warm.

Follow Her Friday: Rachel Hollis

Aerie: What does being #AerieREAL mean to you?

Rachel: #AerieREAL is the idea of not just being comfortable with but grateful for who you are today. I love the idea of wanting to better your self, to become a better person inside and out. But that doesn’t mean that who you are right now (at this exact weight, with that exact hair, with your nose and your smile) isn’t awesome. Celebrate where you are, the real you because the real you is fabulous!

Thank you, Rachel! Be sure to check out The Chic Site and follow her on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

xoxo,

Aerie
