#AEOSTYLE Challenge: Shorts

One of our favorite menswear bloggers, Freddy Rodriguez from Blue Perk, recently took a trip of a lifetime to Thailand. And the first thing he packed — his favorite American Eagle Outfitters shorts, essential for the hot days and nights of this Southeast Asian kingdom.

Meet Freddy:
Freddy Rodriguez is the blogger behind the popular menswear site, Blue Perk. The Texas transplant, now a New York based editor, made his way to the city to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. He enjoys traveling at a moment’s notice and shares his unique perspectives on Twitter @FREDRDGZ.

What inspired Freddy’s look:
While preparing for this trip I knew it would be hot. I chose to pack a lot of light layers that would breathe but would compliment the tropical atmosphere. I may have jumped the gun with my thrifted Hawaiian shirt and pineapple shoes, but I couldn’t resist fully embracing the summer weather.

Freddy paired his 8″ Prep Shorts with a surf tropic print for a trend-right look.

What inspired Freddy’s look:
I’m sure glad I packed accordingly. It’s been 90+ degrees each day, which I am not complaining after what seemed like a never ending winter in New York. A key tip that I’ve learned is tank-tops and shorts are the best way to stay comfortable while traveling. Though I would also highly recommend sun screen, a mistake I made and have been paying for these past two days. Other than that, you don’t need much else than tropical prints and complimenting shorts to stay comfortable while in tropical climates.

What inspired Freddy’s look:
Because it’s really hot here, the key is less is more. Coordinating colors and prints is the best way to stay true to your style, while not completely melting. White is a traditional tropical color and I wasn’t going to miss my opportunity to embrace the color before Memorial Day. Though I may have been worried all day that I was going to get my shorts dirty (I did, sigh), the real treat was feeling and looking fresh despite my constant flow of sweat. So don’t forget to pack your whites on your next tropical excursion!

What inspired Freddy’s look:
While I’m sweating buckets, I figured I might as well wear as little as possible, right? Second best to being shirtless is a slim cut tank-top that allows a lot of room for breathing and light shorts that also allow your legs to breathe. Because there is no better way to win against the heat. I learned to just cope with drenching my outfit in sweat and try my best to look good while doing it.

#AEOSTYLE Challenge: Shortalls

We made the iconic throwback shortalls cool again this summer. Shortalls are the perfect piece for music festivals, a cover-up from beach to street or just hanging out.

We asked two bloggers, Marsa from The DayLee Journal and Ashley from Twenties Girl Style to style our Denim Shortall. The girls each styled the piece a completely different way, so you have inspiration for both warmer summer days and cooler spring nights.

Marsa from The DayLee Journal in our Denim Shortall.

Meet Marsa:
The DayLee Journal is a lifestyle blog about my day to day happenings. It started right after I got married, as a way for us to keep family and friends updated with our new life together, but soon after, the blog began to take a turn. Instead of just cheesy photos of the hubs and I, I started documenting my daily outfits from time to time. And thus, The DayLee Journal was born: a lifestyle blog with doses of personal style.

Marsa styled our Denim Shortall for a casual day out.

What Inspired Marsa’s Look:
I want to talk about these Shortalls! They’re comin’ back! Besides the fact that they’re obviously super cute, they’re also amazingly comfortable. Denim and oxblood are one of my favorite combos, so I wore these with a simple white tee, threw on the slouchy oxblood cardigan for some basic layering and topped it off with a wide brim hat. Simple, but a favorite for a casual day out.

Ashley from Twenties Girl Style in our Denim Shortall.

Meet Ashley:
I am a clothes hoarder and fashion obsessed, a book worm and an elementary teacher. I created Twenties Girl Style as a personal style diary to showcase (you guessed it) my personal style. Although I am a twenty-something, Twenties Girl Style isn’t just about being in your twenties, but rather embracing your style, no matter the trend. It’s about being trendy, care free and effortless, so no matter your age, you can definitely be a twenties girl!

We can’t get enough of Ashley’s boho look with our Denim Shortall.

What Inspired Ashley’s Look:
I am obsessed with overalls/shortalls at the moment! Since receiving the Denim Shortall, I have worn them at least 10 different ways and I love how versatile they are. One of my favorite ways to wear these is with a more feminine flowy blouse and heeled booties. I love the laid back feel of the overalls but by adding this sheer off-the-shoulder top, it gives it a girly feel perfect for date night or a music festival! Every girl needs a pair of shortalls in her closet!

AEO Friends and Family: Adam Gallagher from I Am Galla

Meet Adam Gallagher, the blogger behind I Am Galla. Adam’s stunning photography and awesome outfits caught our eye and we’ve been loyal followers ever since. We partnered with Adam to showcase a few of his favorite American Eagle Outfitters pieces that are essential to every Spring Break wardrobe in our Blogger Shop. Read on to learn more about Adam, how he started blogging and what fashion trend he hopes never comes back.

adam i am galla american eagle outfitters spring 2014

Adam from I Am Galla.

When did you discover your interest in fashion and writing?
Ever since I was a kid I naturally cared about what I was wearing. I enjoyed shopping with my mom and dad and picked out ridiculous things (Hawaiian and global prints were my go-to). As I got older, my style evolved and I had this rule that every year in school I would change my look. I was all over the place but enjoyed every minute of it.

What prompted you to start I Am Galla?
When I graduated high school I received the best dressed award and felt like I had some obligation to really do something with that. I took to the internet and saw other people writing fashion blogs and started one of my own. It was a hobby that turned into a business and I’m grateful everyday because of it.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
The best thing about blogging hands down is the freedom of expression. I get to dress however I want, photograph wherever I want and call all the shots. As bloggers we are the art directors, editors, stylists and models all in one and even though it seems like a “perfect life” it really is a lot of work and very rewarding. I love what I do.

adam i am galla american eagle outfitters spring 2014

A candid shot of Adam.

What are you doing when you’re not blogging?
I’m always blogging! That’s where social media comes in. I could be enjoying other hobbies such as playing music, working out or traveling and yet I’m Instagraming the whole time for my blog. I’s not just something I do, it’s a lifestyle.

What is your favorite fit of AEO denim?
Skinny! I’m a firm believer that everyone (including men) shouldn’t be afraid to showcase some body shape. Fitted everything… that’s my rule.

What trends from AEO do you love most for Spring?
Pastel colors for guys are great. The Paneled Short Sleeve Button Down Shirt will definitely be something I wear with some chinos at the beach.

adam i am galla american eagle outfitters spring 2014

Adam in two of his spring break essentials: pastels and chinos.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Everywhere: eras in time, celebrities, books, colors, you name it. There is no limit to inspiration, that’s the great part.

What is the last song you listened to?
“Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac.

Where is the coolest place you have ever traveled?
Hawaii. It’s stunning. It’s kind of unbelievable that something that perfect exists.

What fashion trend do you hope to never see again?
Baggy pants: retired and fired.

What fashion trend do you hope comes back in style?
60′s is always welcome to come back in my book. Love mod, love the colors, love hippies, etc.

Tell us a few fun facts about you.
My favorite food is anything with pesto on it. I’m a huge animal lover. I’m a Libra. And I’m afraid of flying (yes, I’m a travel blogger).

What’s next on your life to-do list?
Really take my business to the next level. I just got an office in SoHo and an assistant, I just want to continue growing and really have an impact on the menswear market. I want to collaborate with the best and travel, travel, travel!

#AEOSTYLE Challenge: Global Prints

Our designers travel the world to find the coolest print inspiration to create global prints exclusively for you. Sometimes global prints can seem a little tricky to style, but fashion bloggers Ashlyn from Let it Be Beautiful and Shanna from Because Shanna Said So created two looks to help us out. Be sure you visit each girl’s blog to see even more shots of their looks.

Ashlyn from Let it Be Beautiful in our Soft Floral Jumpsuit.

Meet Ashlyn: Ashlyn is a personal life + style blogger living in DC with her better half + English Bulldog, Tinsley. Let it Be Beautiful was originally created as a personal outlet where she could share her life as a physician assistant student. Quickly, her blog evolved into a place to share her inspiration with others. Let It Be Beautiful offers a daily dose of style, design & prettiness!

Ashlyn took the romper in a completely different direction by adding a denim vest.

What inspired Ashlyn’s look: When deciding on what to pair with the jumpsuit, I was thinking ‘cozy & casual’ for spring or summer. I tend to throw on my denim vest over a dress, tank or t-shirt & the outfit is completely transitioned. Also, adding a pop of color to any look is important to me, so my red bag was a no-brainer. Get Ashlyn’s look: Soft Floral Jumpsuit Denim Vest (similar)

Shanna from Because Shanna Said So in our Soft Pant.

Meet Shanna: Shanna is a personal style blogger born and raised in Texas. She currently resides in the Austin area and is living life to it’s fullest. She began her blog in late 2011 with a passion for reaching women of all ages and sharing affordable fashion, accessible style inspiration and her favorite cosmetics. She truly believes that women do not have to spend a lot too look like they did.

Shanna shows off the versatility of a soft pant by wearing sneakers for a casual-cook look.

What inspired Shanna’s look: I opted to style these pants on a very casual level. They are easy to move around in with an elastic waist and airy material. They are super comfortable and perfect for running weekend errands. The versatility is amazing and could easily be taken into the evening with a pair of heels, a solid crop, long chain necklace and clutch. What inspired her Spring Break look:

“One of my favorite color combinations is coral and olive. I chose this fun printed sun dress for the perfectly girly silhouette and the unique cut outs in the back. I always love a fun detail that’s unexpected. Layering a relaxed moto vest over it was a great way to add color and interest to the look. Plus, I’ve been wanting a great vest to layer for at least a year now and was so excited to be able to style this for Spring. Add a classic wedge and mirrored aviators and I’m ready for Spring break, sunshine and sweet treats.”
