New Year’s Eve Essentials

New Year’s Eve is a symbol of both the last hurrah of the holiday party season, and the start of a new and exciting year. To celebrate, we’re definitely planning on looking our best for the countdown to midnight. It’s the best excuse to bring out our least practical (but prettiest!) party dresses and dance all night!

Aerie’s fit and style expert, Jenny Altman, is here to tell you why the Aerie Bare Bra is your secret weapon to help you ring in the new year!

The Aerie Bare Bra is an NYE essential.

The Bare Bra will support long past the stroke of midnight!

Why It’s a Must-Have:

The Bare Bra is the ultimate in holiday solutions. This bra goes under every top or dress you want to wear, but don’t have the right bra for. It goes under strapless, halter, one shoulder and even under backless dresses. The woman who invented this bra is brilliant!

Which One to Buy?

Aerie offers both pushup and lightly lined options – both are great staples to have, depending on your preference. In terms of color, nude goes under every single thing you will ever wear. But black is just a little prettier, so if you often wear dark tops, go black. Or buy both as investment pieces and wear them a million times each.

 What Size to Buy?

Buy these bras by cup size as you normally would. If you aren’t sure of your size, head to an Aerie store for an expert fitting.

Quick Tips for Wearing the Bare Bra:

OK, these can be a little tricky to put on the first time around..so listen here. No deodorant, fragrance, powder, baby oil or moisturizer where the bra sits on the body. If you don’t follow these rules, the bra may not stick as well as it should…you don’t want it to end up around your waist! Take the plastic liner out of the bra cups first. Stand tall in front of a mirror and rest each breast into the cup and hoist the bra up a bit so that it fits snug against the body. If your bra has a side wing, remove the plastic from each side wing and stick it securely to your side. These side wings are amazing and give a little extra support to this backless bra.

Caring for Your Bare Bra 101:

Want to make sure your Bare Bra lasts? They require a little extra TLC than your average pushup. After you wear the bra, wash it in the sink with water and a mild soap. Leave it out to fully dry. Once dry, put the plastic liner back inside the bra and store the bra back inside the box you got it in. This keeps the shape and the adhesive lasting a long while!

A Few Last-Minute Quick Tips:

My other NYE secret weapon are Outta Sight undies! They are the best for all of those knit, jersey, or fitted holiday dresses. Undie lines are the worst and these undies are smooth as can be!

Finally, keep a few strips of Apparel Tape in your bag at all times. For any button that pops off, hem that falls, strap that slips, or other fashion emergencies, this is your best fashion friend.

Thanks for the tips, Jenny! Have a Happy New Year, Aerie girls!

Aerie

#AskJenny Question of the Week: Backless Doesn’t Have to Mean Braless!

What to wear under your tricky summer tops and dresses this season? This week, you all wanted to know how to stay chic this summer without breaking the bank. Jenny’s back with some expert answers to your biggest summer style SOS!

Jenny's here to turn your bra "oh no's" into "whoa's"!

Q: Which type of bra would you recommend for summery shirts such as flowy, backless, strapless, spaghetti straps, and cross backs? I have a lot of fun shirts and a couple dresses I want to wear (preferably without a tanktop underneath), but my bras always seem to look funky underneath. The bra will almost always show on the sides, the straps might show, or just don’t flow well with the shirt. It’s a pain and makes me consider going bra-less. I don’t want to buy a bra for every shirt because i’m on a college girl’s budget. Please help!

Jenny:  I LOVE this bra question. It really is on everyone’s mind for summer!

You do not need a bra for each outfit, you just need a great do-it-all bra.

First up is a bra I can’t live without, the best investment bra ever; a multi-way bra. Multi way bras are at minimum a great strapless bra, and it’s up to you whether you want padded or not. I like the Mia Multi-Way Pushup bra since it gives great lift and has some oomph in the cups.

I wear it mostly as a strapless, but with a quick change of the straps, you can wear the bra as a halter, one shoulder, deep v-halter, and more! The versatility makes this bra function as 8+ bras in one.

Mia Multi-Way

Have it all with the Mia Multi-Way! While she’s a great strapless option, she can be styled 8 different ways for all your tricky tops.

Second for me is another life changing bra, the Lace Bare Pushup bra. (We also have our original, non-pushup Bare Bra for all you lightly lined ladies!)

bare bra

Our Lace Pushup Bare Bra is one of Jenny’s favorite tricks for getting the backless look…without going braless!

This bra allows you the freedom of going braless (no bra across the back!) while getting the coverage and support of a strapless. The adhesive is amazing (just remember…no deodorant, powder, perfume or lotion where the bra goes or else it won’t stick!). This bra will work with everything, from a backless formal dress to an open back tank top. Take good care of this bra and you’ll go back to it in your drawer forever to solve tons of outfit dilemmas.

With either option, go with nude for the most versatility with your outfits!

That’s it for today! Check out more quick fixes from Jenny here, and look out for more of her answers to your questions each Monday right here on the Aerie blog!

It gives you great coverage while the adhesive cup gives you the support and security you need. Plus, there is a clasp in the middle where you can join the two cups to create a little lift for subtle cleavage. A must for your spring and summer dresses and low-cut back shirts!
