How To Style The Choker Neck Sweater With Glamarosh

The choker necklace made a huge comeback over the past year, and we’re so glad it did. We’ve used this 90s accessory staple to complement everything from bomber jackets to dresses, but now we’re loving a new take on the choker necklace that’s two of our favorite looks in one: the Choker Neck Sweater. Blogger Roshni Patel from Glamarosh styled this two-in-one top with an old Holloywood meets modern-chic feel by layering a long necklace over the choker top and pairing it with block mules. Check out Roshni’s look & what inspired her outfit below.

What Inspired Roshni’s Look:
“My choker blush sweater from American Eagle has been my favorite go to this year! The lightweight material makes it easy to layer with a denim jacket or wear as is on those warmer days. Since it was warm enough to ditch the jacket, I paired with a pop of color mules and 70s style sunglasses to add a little fun spark to your cozy essentials. The beauty in this piece is you can dress it up or down for any occasion. For those colder days, the sweater would pair well with a short skirt, OTK boots and a long coat.”

How To Style The Band Tee With Alyssa May

Great taste in music never goes out of style. Classic rock (think Bowie, The Ramones and The Doors) are a staple in pop culture, and we can’t think of a better way to rock the vintage trend than a band tee featuring these timeless artists. Paired with destructed jeans or a denim jacket, the band tee will turn your style all the way up. Blogger Alyssa May styled one of our vintage-inspired Rolling Stones tees with a major festival vibe that speaks her to unique #AEOSTYLE. Check out Alyssa’s outfit featuring the AEO Band Tee below, and if you love her look, find her past post in AEO here.

Galentine’s Day Party Guide

Valentine’s Day always renews our nostalgia for handwritten love notes and heart-shaped treats – things worth celebrating regardless of your relationship status, really.  And even better, in our opinion, is February 13th – a.k.a. Galentine’s Day. What’s that, you ask? “Only the best day of the year,” according to Lesley Knope, Galentine’s Day gives us the perfect opportunity to honor the magical combination of friendship and females. This year, why not show your pals some love by hosting your very own Galentine’s party?  We have a few ideas to get you started.

PARTY TRICK #1

DIY invitations. They’re fun, easy, and who doesn’t love getting snail mail? All you need for these ones are some watercolor paints, paper and markers! Create a watercolor wash by spreading a thin layer of paint across the paper, adding more water as needed for a translucent effect. Use the markers (and your best penmanship) to fill in the deets, and for an added touch, throw some heart-shaped confetti, rose petals, tea bags or candy in the envelope.

PARTY TRICK #2

Flowers. They make everything prettier. Decorate your tables with some small floral arrangements of your choice. (Pro tip: make enough so that all of your Galentines can take one home!)

PARTY TRICK #3

Chocolate. And what’s better than chocolate? Pink chocolate! Whip up this impressive treat by melting bars of white chocolate and stirring in freeze-dried raspberries until the chocolate turns a blush-pink shade. Pour the melted mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle on dried culinary rose petals, crushed pistachios, dried raspberries or sugared almonds. Allow the chocolate to set completely and then cut or break it into squares.

PARTY TRICK #4

Fancy refreshments are a necessity! This hibiscus-rose iced tea is the perfect complement to your DIY pink chocolate. Start by freezing rose buds in water in a large ice cube mold. Brew some hibiscus tea, stir in honey to sweeten and let it chill on ice. Finally, pour in a bottle of rose water (you can find these at Whole Foods) and fill glasses with the tea mixture and the rose-petal-infused ice cubes. Top with extra rose petals and fresh raspberries.

PARTY TRICK #5

Get creative with your table settings! Arrange your mini bouquets, desserts, drinks, some scented candles, small string lights, or anything else that sets the Galentine’s mood. Turn on the tunes and get the party started!

As for your #OOTD, keep your theme going with blush tones and florals. This pretty sweater paired with hi-rise jeans is cozy and perfect for chilling with gal pals. For something a little dressier (but just as comfy), you can’t go wrong with a romper. The flared sleeves and floral print have GIRL POWER written all over them.

The fact is, sometimes life gets in the way of our free time – and scheduling much-needed girl time gets lost in a sea of other (seemingly more important) to-dos. Luckily, Galentine’s Day offers us the perfect reminder to appreciate and prioritize our friends – and the perfect excuse to shower them with love. Happy Galentine’s Day to you!

Musically Inspired #AEOSTYLE: Looks For The 2017 Grammy’s

The Grammy’s are back and (dare we say) better than ever. With nominees like Queen Bey, Adele, Chance the Rapper, Twenty One Pilots & more, it’s hard to say which powerhouse artists will take home a golden gramophone. Plus, we can’t wait to watch once-in-a-lifetime mash up performances from Lady Gaga + Metallica and other favorites. “Major Key”: We were so inspired by this year’s artists that we created two noteworthy #AEOSTYLE looks that have all the edge that music’s biggest night deserves. Say “Hello” to our musically-inspired looks below, and let us know which performances you’re most excited to see!

You’re going to “Love Yourself” in this look. Put your look into “Formation” by pairing black and white pieces with a glam edge. Get “Closer” to style #goals by layering a black bralette under a white mesh tank and white jeggings. Channel your inner “Dangerous Woman” in black lace-up block heels. Finish your outfit with small details (our favorite kinds of “Cheap Thrills”) like a delicate choker necklace, a gold watch and a black crossbody bag.

Don’t get “Stressed Out”. If “Blue Ain’t Your Color”, that’s totally fine. You’ll have “No Problem” looking your best in edgy, cool black & white pieces, the most “Famous” color combo. Find some “Purpose” and ground our #AEOSTYLE in slip-on denim sneakers. Turn your look “All The Way Up” in a black tie-dyed tee under a button down shirt & black destructed skinny jeans.

Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!

Kristen Lauterbach, our very own Associate Manager of Business Strategies, just started her very own sweets biz! Get to know the #AerieREAL girl behind Gimme Some Sugar Cookie, then get baking with her U-Day cookie recipe below.

Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!

When did you first start baking?

KL: I started baking about 4 years ago for my friends & family only. It was a guarantee that the dessert table for any holiday would have some type of treat made by me.

What inspired you to start Gimme Some Sugar Cookie?

KL: First off, I love finding any and all creative outlets; having the opportunity to make something special for someone that brings them joy is the ultimate gift!! I thrive off those moments when people see their cookies for the first time! I started Gimme Some Sugar Cookie to hopefully give me many more of those moments in the future!

What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business?

KL: The #1 thing I would say is make sure you absolutely LOVE whatever your business is. This is a serious undertaking that takes MANYYYY hours out of your day so it should be something you get joy out of doing! If you don’t LOVE it then you haven’t found the right business just yet!

How will you be celebrating U-Day?

KL: I will be celebrating U-Day by continuing to challenge myself to take risks because that is truly when you learn exactly what you’re capable of!

Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!

WHAT YOU NEED:

Cookies

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, slightly softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract (makes the flavor amazing!)
  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Royal Icing

  • 3 tbsp. 4oz. meringue powder
  • 4 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 5 tbsp. spoons warm water

Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!

WHAT TO DO:

  1. Using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter in a large bowl until it is creamy and smooth (about 1 minute). Add the sugar and beat at a high speed until it’s light and fluffy, about 3 or 4 minutes.
  2. Add the egg, vanilla and almond extract and beat on high until fully combined, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
  3. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a medium bowl. Turn the mixer to low and add about half of the flour mixture. Add the rest of the flour and continue mixing until combined.Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!
  4. Divide the dough into 2 equal parts. Roll each portion out onto a piece of parchment to about 1/4″ thickness.
  5. Stack the pieces (with parchment paper) onto a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 1 day. If chilling for more than a couple hours, cover the top dough piece with a single piece of parchment paper.
  6. Once chilled, preheat oven to 350°F . Line 2-3 large baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. The amount of batches will depend on how large/small you cut your cookies.
  7. Remove one of the dough pieces from the refrigerator and using a cookie cutter, cut in shapes. Transfer the cut cookie dough to the prepared baking sheet. Re-roll the remaining dough and continue cutting until all is used.
  8. Bake for 8-11 minutes until very lightly colored on top and around the edges, rotating the baking sheet halfway through bake time. My cookies typically take 9 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before icing. I always let mine cool overnight, just to be sure.Gimme Some Sugar Cookies For U-Day!
  10. Make the icing (I doubled the frosting recipe to frost a majority of my cookies): beat all icing ingredients until icing forms peaks (7 minutes at low speed with heavy-duty mixer). Once it reaches your preferred consistency, separate and color in bowls with food coloring.
  11. Decorate with filled piping bags.
  12. Once the icing has set, these cookies are great for gifts, sending or munching on right away. I find they stay soft for about 5 days at room temperature.
