Guest Blog Post: Jenny Altman on Perfect T-Shirt Bras

Sheer and lightweight tees and tanks all have one thing in common – they need a great t-shirt bra!

The t-shirt bra is the modern girl’s go-to bra of choice…and why? There is no show through. It is like your trustworthy BFF that works with everything. It may not be the most sexy bra in your drawer (although it can be tres pretty), but it makes your boobs look good and keeps you modest even in the coldest of places.

Here are my go-to t-shirt bras for summer and back to school:

Sunnie is my #1 basic t-shirt bra. She is full-coverage (but not too much), has stretch for comfort, is lightly lined (no show through!) and hides the back-fat (well, we all have some!). She’s paired here with our Love Me Don’t Retouch Me tee for the perfect comfy and confident look!

SET11_07_14_14_AERIE_SM_TSHIRT18179

Charley is my new BFF. She conceals, has a deep plunge for low tees and tanks, gives great push up and even has a super secret j-hook in the back, instantly transforming her into a racerback bra. Plus her colors are amazing! I love the cotton Charley in light grey with the neon yellow trim! It pairs perfectly with the neon stripe Charley tee!

Blakely is a longtime fave, especially with pretty lace detail. She is a great lightly lined demi-cup which gives coverage and a full, rounded shape. Her solid colors are amazing (with contrast lace detail!) and her allover lace shows you that t-shirt bras don’t have to be boring. The lace is flat and smooth so it still works under tees, but looks much fancier than your go-to nudes.

Jaclyn is your smoothest, softest pushup bra with underwire. She is the perfect t-shirt bra (so smooth, everything just glides over her) with built in pillows around the wire (seriously!). She feels dreamy and lovely even while doing her job of pushing you up to perkiest perfection! I love the ombre colors, too. Check out the lilac with two tone purple lace around the band.

Which t-shirt bra is YOUR go-to?

Tell me your fave or ask me a question at AskJenny@AE.com.

Xoxo,

Jenny

7 things we love…

Welcome to this week’s edition of 7 Things We Love! Get inspired by all the things inspiring US right now, from what we’re reading and eating to what we’re wearing and listening to. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING:  AEO EMBROIDERED TOTE
The bold geometric design and metallic embellishments make this tote the one we’re grabbing for everything from beach vacays to brunch dates. It’s just roomy enough to hold all our essentials, but designed in a subtly flat silhouette that doesn’t overwhelm you.

WHAT WE’RE DRINKING:  MINT ARNOLD PALMERS
There is just nothing more refreshing in the summer than a big glass of ice cold lemonade. But we’re taking ours to the next level by combining it with green tea, honey and sprigs of mint. The result? The beverage you won’t be able to stop drinking for the rest of the summer.

WHAT WE’RE READING:  IF I STAY BY GAYLE FORMAN
What if you had the opportunity to decide whether you stayed on Earth… or left it behind? 17-year-old cellist, Mia, is in a car accident with her family that, impossibly enough, leaves her this choice. What follows is a beautiful, heartwrenching story about love, loss and the difficult choices we all have to make in our lives. Be sure to read this book before the movie, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, comes out on August 22.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:  VERY GOOD GIRLS
We’ve been excited about this movie since we first heard that it was filming. Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen (AKA Mary Kate & Ashley’s sister) star as two girls in NYC who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school… and then both fall for the same guy. We bet we’ll beat you to the concession stand.

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING:  BROKEN AGE
If hand painting, sci-fi/fantasy/adventure and iPad games aren’t your thing, maybe the fact that this one is voiced by Elijah Wood and Jack Black will make you take a second look. The gamer in us is pretty excited to play this one.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO:  FIFTEEN BY GOLDROOM
LA-based Goldroom combines emotive choruses, soulful rhythms and lush electronic ornaments to create a sound that’s somehow a throwback to the 90’s with a totally modern feel. The lyrics of this song, which features Chela, really speak for themselves: “It’s been a long time, wondering why/the summer smells like sin and wonder/Feels like it got inside of a place and time/I dream about when I get a walk in”

WHERE WE’RE GOING:  SAN DIEGO
From the world acclaimed San Diego Zoo to Legoland, there’s a little something for everyone in the balmy paradise that is San Diego. Plus the weather is pretty darn awesome, pretty much all the time. (Okay, okay… and we can’t help but think of Will Ferrell talking about how San Diego’s name came to be in Anchorman.)

Interview: The Wind and the Wave

Austin, TX is known for live music. In fact, you can’t walk down Sixth Street without being pulled into a bar by the sounds of guitar riffs and kick drums. Trust us, we’ve tried. But that being said, the city is obviously a hotbed for burgeoning talent in the rock and country arena. Enter, The Wind & the Wave – an Austin-based duo that charmed their way into our hearts when they stopped through Pittsburgh on their tour with the Jameston Revival. Get to know more about Patty Lynn and Dwight Baker and listen to a song from their new LP!

Windandwave 3

I like your tattoo.

KM:  Oh, thanks. It’s a celtic knot.

Dwight:  Are you Scottish?

KM:  No, I’m a bit Irish.

Dwight:  We played in Ireland.

KM:  That’s so cool, tell me about it!

Patty:  We went on a tour with a band called Stereophonics. They’re huge over there. So we were on their US/Canada tour.

Dwight:  Yeah, we played Ireland, Scotland and mainland Great Britain.

KM:  Tell me about how you found each other and became a band.

Patty:  I was in another band and I was living in Austin. And he came out to see somebody that my band was opening for. And liked what he heard, I guess.

Dwight:  I just thought you were pretty. No, I loved what I heard. She’s got an enchanting voice. It’s magic.

Patty:  And so after that, my band built a relationship with him. He has a really nice studio in Austin. We made a couple records with him. And then through that process, we just became friends. We just enjoyed each other’s company. Definitely more so than I enjoyed the company of my bandmates. It was just kind of a natural thing that happened.

Dwight:  And then she quit her band. And I had a break in my schedule so we started writing together and it became that record very quickly. Then three months after that, we signed to RCA. It was very weird and very quick.

KM:  That is quick. So you’ve been a band for about a year?

Dwight:  Yeah, I think we’re at about 18 months. It’s been fun.

KM:  People usually want to know what any artist’s influences are. But we’re going to make you narrow that down to the one album that truly affected your path in music.

Patty:  Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie just opened my brain. Before that I didn’t really know what I liked in music. Like, I liked whatever my friends liked, or thought I did anyway. And then I heard that record and it’s just in another world.

Dwight:  I’d say that the first record that affected me was Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys. The first one that I went like, “whooooa. I want to sing along with all of this! This is genius!” And I’m like, 6.

KM:  I wanna go back to the topic of touring for a minute. Which place was your favorite to play and why?

Dwight:  I like the Midwest. I like Des Moines and …

Patty:  Like Omaha.

Dwight:  Yeah! There’s something really awesome about the Midwest. Or just out-of-the-way places, Portland’s been great too. When you don’t get a band everytime they come through on tour, like a city doesn’t get every tour, kids are just dying for it.

Patty:  Which is the way it should be all the time. But it’s not. I mean, we’re from Austin and I love Austin. Favorite place to go? Austin. But the people who live there see live music 10 times a day.

Dwight:  We loved European fans too. ‘Cause they just get up on each other’s shoulders and throw a beer in the air.

Patty:  They know how to do it right.

Dwight:  It’s like a working class crowd with Stereophonics and they’re just out for a good time. And it just makes the show more fun. Listening, paying attention but being rowdy too.

Patty:  They’re always in the moment.

Dwight:  American fans these days tend to spend a lot of time on their cell phones.

Patty:  Me included! I’m on my phone all the damn time! But when you go to a show, it’s like, why are you there?

Dwight:  You almost want to give a lecture. Let’s all put our phones on silent like on an airplane and all participate and afterwards, let’s go crazy!
