7 things we love…

Welcome to this week’s edition of 7 Things We Love! Get inspired by all the things inspiring US right now, from what we’re reading and eating to what we’re wearing and listening to. Let us know what you think about our picks in the comments—and give us yours, too!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING: THE AEO SWING TANK DRESS
We’re all about easy, effortless dressing—especially when we can take a piece from boho to moto with a few simple accessories or the addition of a leather biker jacket. And this dress is one that lets us do it all. We love the bold stripes and the swingy silhouette, especially since it’s forgiving—which means we can eat all the cookies we want…

WHAT WE’RE EATING: GLUTEN FREE PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
…Which leads us right to our next love. These. Cookies. Are. Everything. Now that it’s officially fall, we’re craving all things pumpkin—and these are a great way to satisfy our sweet tooth while still, shockingly, not being too unhealthy. Pumpkin’s full of good-for-you stuff like beta-carotine and fiber, but don’t let that fool you—these taste delicious.

WHAT WE’RE READING: FANGIRL BY RAINBOW ROWELL
Now that we’ve read (and are still obsessing over) Rowell’s Eleanor & Park, we’ve been devouring everything else she’s written. Fangirl is written in a similar style but this time follows Cath (short for Cather), a college freshman who writes widely followed fan fiction, has an identical twin and, in short, is struggling to figure out who she really is in the world. While the passages of Cath’s fan fiction seem a bit extraneous (and, if we’re being honest, we ended up skimming them), the story in between is sweet, honest and funny.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: GONE GIRL
We’re pretty sure we don’t need to give you a synopsis of one of the most widely hyped, must-see movies of the year. So we’ll just say that we’re going to be first in line to see it. It stars Ben Affleck as the protagonist/antagonist and promises to be just as thrilling and captivating as the book (that pretty much never leaves the bestseller list).

WHAT WE’RE DOWNLOADING: THE PARTYPARTY APP
Not only is this app one of the easiest to use EVER, but it’s SO. MUCH. FUN. You can select 4, 9, 16 or literally infinity photos to upload from your camera roll and put into a slideshow that’s shareable on Instagram, Facebook and even your blog. (Definitely good news for Blogger users.) You can add filters, you can add different frames, you can control the slideshow speed. Basically, it’s a party in your pocket.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: ELEVATE BY ST. LUCIA
Want a unique throwback sound with a modern feel… that almost sounds like you’re listening to Phil Collins and Genesis, but in a totally new way? This feel-good song will make you dance in your seat and will put the biggest smile on your face. Guaranteed.

WHERE WE’RE GOING: THE HUDSON VALLEY
Want a really great view of fall foliage? The Hudson Valley is where it’s at. A drive through upstate New York is breathtakingly beautiful in the fall thanks to the leaves changing colors on the trees. There’s a ton to do here, from a visit to the little town of Nyack (filled with cute boutiques and restaurants) to the Mohonk Mountain House, where you can go hiking or visit the spa. There are farmer’s markets and places to go apple picking scattered all over the area, too.

Knowledge is Power! Bright Pink’s Tips to be Proactive About Your Health

At Aerie, we are so excited to be partnering with Bright Pink, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the early detection and prevention of breast and ovarian cancers in young women. The organization was founded by Lindsay Avner, a pretty powerful Aerie girl herself, who started Bright Pink while she was in her early 20s. Lindsay was frustrated by the lack of resources for young women of all levels of risk, so she set out to make her own!

Bright Pink’s mission is to help girls get the tools and information they need to be proactive about their health today. Check out the videos below as Lindsay sets the record straight on some common misconceptions, and gives her tips for being your healthiest self, right now. Knowledge is power!

Assess Your Risk

How do you know your personal risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer? Bright Pink has a 5-minute quiz that will help you determine just that. Take the Assess Your Risk Quiz today to find out your risk, and some lifestyle choices you can make to reduce it.

Is It Time for a Checkup?

You only need to see a doctor when you’re sick, right? Wrong! Lindsay explains how often you should be seeing your doctor to keep your breasts and ovaries healthy, and some questions you should be asking each time you get a checkup.

Ovarian Health 101

So, we hear a lot about our breasts at this time of year. But what’s the deal with our ovaries? Watch below as Lindsay explains the basics about ovarian health, and signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer to look out for.

Know Your Normal

One of the biggest myths of all is that there’s a “normal” when it comes to your body. Every body is different, and your body and breasts will naturally change over time. The key is to know YOUR normal. Lindsay gives some tips for checking in with your body below. Another great reminder? Text PINK to 59227 to receive monthly reminders to check your breasts!

Xoxo,

Aerie

How to wear: Socks with Slip Ons

We absolutely love the loafer and sock trend, however this look is not the easiest to master.  If you want to step up your style game and be on point with fall’s latest trends, then you must try this look! The key to rocking socks and shoes is pairing a simple loafer with a knit cotton sock, that’s right, a knit cotton sock. Don’t forget those three words! Dress socks and athletic socks will not work!  So no matter if you have classic #AEOSTYLE or go for an edgier look, this season, a pop of pattern is the perfect way to incorporate your colorful side without going overboard. Check out two ways in which you can incorporate cozy knit socks into your look below.

#AEOSTYLE Challenge: Boho Tops

One trend we can’t get enough of this fall is boho. From flowy skirts to buckled booties and tiered tops, our inspiration when we get dressed is the wild beauty of boho fashion.

We asked three style bloggers, Katelyn from The Skinny Blonde Girl, Nicole from Dainty Girl and Alex from I’m a Little to style our boho-inspired tops in their own way.

What inspired Katelyn’s style:
“I loved the flirty shape and print of the top, and couldn’t help but mix it with a similarly coloured Aerie scarf. It’s lightweight and perfect for layering, but also stands on its own as a sleeveless tank.”

What inspired Nicole’s look:
When I first saw the Crocheted Empire Waist Tank, I immediately though of summer music festival style. It would’ve looked perfect with denim cut-offs or over a little floral dress. Alas, fall is officially here, so I dusted off my transitional faves and styled this boho top for the season! First of all, this top is lace, so it’s totally see-through but if you’re layering it under a blazer, I think it’s fine to wear it with a bra in a contrasting color. I chose a lacy black bralette to wear underneath and layered a long camel blazer on top with a layered gold statement necklace. I love this combination of earth tones contrasted by dark indigo denim and black suede ankle booties. It’s the perfect look for Sunday brunch or a casual date night.

What inspired Alex’s look:
I love this shirt! It’s the perfect piece to layer for the endless summer we’ve been having in Toronto. Since it tends to be a bit cooler in the mornings, I simply paired it with a light cargo jacket and my go-to AEO denim shorts. I love a boho look with low-heeled neutral booties and a bright pair of sunnies to finish off the look. Add my favorite accessories and signature beach waves done up in this season’s trendy ponytail and you’ve got yourself a look that takes you from boho in the city to festival chic.”

Meet Alex:
Alexandra is from Toronto, Canada and is the pint-sized, big-haired blogger from I’m A Little. When she’s not out shooting her street style fashions for the blog you can find her working out, playing with her chocolate toy poodle and eating her way through her favorite cities any chance she gets.”
