How to Wear the Jegging Crop with Polka Dots & Sailor Stripes

Summer is nearly upon us and it’s so close to shorts weather we can taste it. Before you break out the shorties, take a moment to appreciate all that is the Hi-Rise Jegging Crop.

Ashley from Polka Dots and Sailor Stripes shows us she wears her favorite style of Hi-Rise Jegging Crop below. Its legging-like fit, destroyed details and release hem make this jegging crop truly one of a kind.

What Inspired Ashley’s Look:
“The truth behind Polka Dots & Sailor Stripes is that when I am not shooting or going anywhere special, I tend to opt for comfort. Generally, to me comfort means my favorite denim, whether it be shorts or pants…and a comfy t-shirt. This pair of denim is the newest addition into my closet, and I cannot believe how comfortable they are. Back in the day I was an avid American Eagle denim junky. It wasn’t until recently that I actually explored back into the store only to find out they have amazing black distressed cutoffs like these ones, and some of the best boyfriend jeans on the market. This particular cut is taking me way back to when the best of both worlds was found in my favorite pair of capris.”

“The nice thing about these pants are the rips – they’re more distressed than most of the pants I own, but the patches behind the rips allow me to still feel 100% comfortable in them. I also love the ‘release hem,’ which adds a bit more interest with the distressed, uneven coloring.”

Our Top 10 Beach Bag Essentials

Whether you’re headed to the beach for a 5-day vacay or just for the day – don’t forget to throw in these faves! Our Top 10 Beach Bag Essentials 1. The Beach Bag – Where else will you carry all of these essentials? Our two musts for a great beach bag: it should be extra big (to fit the goodies listed below) and extra cute. Tip: Pick a bag that is “beach resistant” and can stand up to the sand. Our teams love woven raffia. Sand brushes right off of this effortless, beach-ready material.

2. The Swimsuit – Duh! The best beach day starts with a cute suit. Right now we’re crushing on this sporty zipper colorblocked bandeau and pretty purple halter.

3. The Coverup – Headed to the boardwalk for a snack? From beach shorts to oversized beach shirts – our stylist has got you covered.

4. The Sunscreen – We can’t get enough of Sun Bum, suncare made from the best ingredients under the sun. Be sure to pick up and pack this surf-ready SPF so you can keep the fun going all day long!

5. The Beauty Must-Haves – We wish that a day at the beach meant instant beach hair, but sometimes our waves need a little encouragement. Try our Beauty For Real For Aerie Salt Spray. It’s ocean in a bottle!

6. The Tunes – Our summer playlist. On repeat.

7. The Sunnies – We have a thing for aviators right now. A classic shape in fun new colors? We’re in!

8. The Flip Flops – Flip flops and sandals should be part of your summer uniform. We love these flip flops from AEO, but to be honest, it was hard to pick just one pair. Can’t we have them all?

9. The Beach Blanket – Be sure to include a blanket to stake out your spot on the beach.

10. The Hat – Top off your packing with a panama-style or floppy hat. It will make catching up on the latest issue of Elle that much easier.

Our Top 10 Beach Bag Essentials

We asked a few of our summer-ready bloggers what they are bringing to the beach – check out their must-haves below!

“During the warmer months you can always catch me spending the day relaxing at the beach or pool & my beach bag is always filled with my 4 must-haves for the perfect day. I always have sunscreen for both my face & body (Supergoop is my fav!), a hat because while I love laying in the sun and getting a little color, I always keep my face in the shade, my kindle or a couple magazines, & of course sunglasses, my eyes are super sensitive to the sun so they are a must!” – Jackie (Living After Midnite)

“A pair of super cute, but affordable sunnies: I’m about to get real here. I can’t be trusted on the beach with my designer sunnies because I’m active! I either sit on them or I lose them in a big wave. I’m loving this pair of white and gold aviators – kind of my go-to color scheme! If I lose them, I can just pop right back in Aerie and grab another!” – Megan (The Thing She Sees)

“I don’t know about you, but once the warm weather hits most of my weekends are spent at the beach and packing your beach bag properly is crucial for a great day at the beach! Most important first, sunscreen! No one wants to look like a lobster at the end of the day! Secondly, a pair of super cute sunnies. Don’t forget the case too! Sand in sunglasses are no bueno! Third, two towels! Yes, two! One to lay on and one for a pillow. Also, if you get in the water you will have an extra one that isn’t super sandy to dry off with! Lastly, I can’t live without my bluetooth speaker. Great tunes at the beach are a must! – Shannon (Upbeat Soles)

Thanks, girls! Let’s pack this up and get to the beach!

Music Monday: Get To Know Michelle Chamuel

You may have heard Michelle Chamuel’s powerful and upbeat voice on in store Aerie playlists. Or, you may have been introduced to the spunky and pretty hilarious gal two years ago on The Voice. No matter where you discovered the talented artists, you know you’re lucky you did. We sat down with Michelle to talk about music, #AEOSTYLE and what she values in life (hint: being happy, healthy and honest are qualities she values most). Take a look at our exclusive AEO interview below and get to know a bit more about Ms. Chamuel.

AEO: Please introduce yourself, where you’re originally from and how you got your start in music.
Michelle: Hi! I’m Michelle Chamuel. I’m from Massachusetts and I got my start in music by being fascinated with sound, starting from a reeeeaaaalllly early age.

AEO: 2 seasons ago, you were a finalist on The Voice. Tell us about your experience!
Michelle: It’s was a trip! The truth is, what goes on in Reality TV stays in Reality TV…That said, I learned a lot, worked hard, had a great time, made new friends, got my butt kicked by all the new things I was learning, got a stronger butt as a result, and now am on that cycle all over again. I think that’s what life is about, eh?

AEO: Was there a specific artist, band or album that’s influenced your path in music?
Michelle: There are many! Imogen Heap, Ella Fitzgerald, Max Martin, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Burial, and Usher – to name a few.

AEO: Where is your favorite place to perform?
Michelle: In a well loved and considered, sound-treated space designed for listening.

AEO: Funniest or most embarrassing moment on the road?
Michelle: This one time, my band didn’t have much money at all and we were sleeping 8 of us in one motel room in Texas. In order to save time and be discreet, two of us climbed out the window in order to get back to our bus. The motel owner saw two of leave through the window and began shrieking that she would call the sheriff. We made a speedy getaway onto the highway before the angry motel owner could make good on her word but didn’t realize that our back trailer door was open, exposing hundreds of dollars of our valuable gear to being smashed. We thankfully caught this pretty early on, and it was a miracle that the drum hardware bag acted like a door, keeping the gear in. We immediately pulled over, closed the door, and continued our epic journey home. And that was just the beginning of that crazy trip…

AEO: Biggest pet peeve?
Michelle: When one is not accountable for being mindless and the resulting harmful actions, as well as a lack of desire to improve on this. To sum it up: negatively based apathy.

AEO: Describe your everyday #AEOStyle
Michelle: There’s this 100% cotton hoodie I got from you guys that I rock a lot. It’s quite comfy.

AEO: What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the music industry?
Michelle: There’s always something new to learn. Work on being an open, happy, healthy, and honest person. Be good to yourself and others, because the thoughts you think and the actions you take become who you are. No amount of followers, or money, or award, or whatever is more important that this. Try to remember what really matters, because success is a subjective thing, while the other stuff isn’t.

AEO: We heard you were at SXSW. What are some of your favorite parts of this festival?
Michelle: SXSW feels like some sort of bizarre family reunion of extended family members I never knew I had. All these artists and musicians are coming together, and for several days leading up to it, you can see this fleet of school busses, 15 pass vans, Prevosts, stuffed cars, Winnebagos, etc – all making their way from around the world to Austin, TX and it’s great!

AEO: Congrats on your debut album! Where can someone find out more about what you’re up to?
Michelle: Thanks!! Yeah! You can check out my album, Face The Fire, which came out this February on iTunes, Amazon, and additional online stores, as well as get updates from my Facebook page. I’m really excited to be making music and wear comfortable clothing!!!

What’s your favorite song of Michelle’s? Tell us in the comments below.
