#AerieREAL Life Castaway

Island lost, paradise found. This season is about all things CASTAWAY. To bring it to life, there was only one option for our summer photoshoot… we traveled all the way to Panama to live like #AerieREAL castaways! Castaway Stylist Erin joined the team to rough it for a week and made it back to tell us all about the great Aerie escape.

#AerieREAL Life Castaway

Tell us about the shoot!

It was another true Aerie shoot… planes, trains and automobiles style!

We took a 5-person charter plane from Panama City to the biggest of the islands, and then we traveled in 10 passenger boats for 40 minutes to the smaller island. We shot on 4 different islands and had to travel by boat to get to each location.

#AerieREAL Life Castaway

We transported all the gear and clothes in waterproof bags because when we got to each location we were completely soaked from the waves crashing over the sides. We were sandy and wet for 4 days! There was no escaping it.

How did you live the REAL castaway life?

We were literally camping in tents on the beach.  We had outdoor showers! We all had headlamps to get to the shared bathrooms at night and a bonfire each night to sit around and chat.  We swam before breakfast each morning and some people even did yoga on the beach.

What about the food?

Every single day, the local families fished. They fried fresh fish for lunch and we had fresh local lobster caught daily for dinner….and my favorite food ever: tostones!!!!!

Tell us about your island hosts.

They spoke in their native tongue, not Spanish like the citizens in Panama City. The women make beautiful Molas, fabric artwork using a reverse appliqué technique. They layer the Mola over the their “western” clothing and wear rows and rows of beads (handmade) on their shins and arms.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY

Festival season starts soon and our stylist knows what you’re wearing! Pack light and bring layers to take your looks from sunshine to fun after dark.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #1 Trade Your Top For A Bralette

Start with your Castaway Crop Tank, then lose it when the sun shines and rock your Castaway Lace Longline Bandeau on its own—this new lace is too pretty to keep underneath anyways! Add extra layers on top with an easy woven Kimono, and keep it breezy on the bottom with a Harem Pant. 4 outfits in one to keep you covered (or not!) for anything your festival days bring.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #2 Layers Layers Layers

The music will be great but you never know about the weather—pack your layers so you’re ready for any temp. We’re all about bandeaus this season, and this Crochet Lace Padded Bandeau gives you the same option to rock it on its own as a top. Take the straps off for sunshine and work on your tan, then cover up when the sun goes down with AE’s Classic Light Wash Denim Jacket.

STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY#3 Remember Your #AerieSWIM

You never know when a Slip ‘N Slide is going to pop up… trade your intimates for your #AerieSWIM and be the first one on! Wear your Crochet Scoop Bikini Top and Macramé Hipster Bottom under your Lace Top Coverup for the sunniest festival days.STYLIST’S PICKS: FESTIVAL-READY #4 Tell A Color Story

Pack light and bring things that are in the same color story so it’s easy to mix and match depending on the day. Wear this Swing Tank with matching Shortie in the same pretty blues, and keep it easy underneath with a neutral wireless bra. Last but never least—add something extra! Accessorize with Raising the Bar Sunnies and a Top Knot Headband.
