How To Style The Active Flex Bomber Jacket With The Modern Otter

By now, we’re assuming that you’ve noticed our outerwear obsession: the bomber jacket is everywhere & we can’t stop, won’t stop. This season, we’ve taken the bomber jacket for an active spin by constructing the jacket from our signature Flex fabric for increased comfort & flexibility. With traditional ribbing around the collar and cuffs, the AEO Active Flex Bomber Jacket has the look of your favorite bomber and and a feel that’s totally new. Aaron, the menswear blogger behind The Modern Otter, styled our Active Bomber Jacket with casual layers to tone down the loungewear feel and amp up the wear-anywhere, ready-for-whatever vibe. MEET AARON: “Hi, I’m Aaron. The Modern Otter started from a passion to tell the stories behind fashion. It’s easy to throw up a few photos, but I care about who made it, where the fabric came from, what inspired the design or what trend it embodies. Every piece of clothing tells a story and I think it’s important to know that story. That sounds lofty, I know. But The Modern Otter is really just a place of discovery. A site for us to find cool places and things and talk about them.

A little about me: I currently live in New York City but have lived in California, Arizona and UpState(ish) New York. My background is in theatre and costume design, but I spent 10 years as a merchandising manager for a major retailer. Now I’m blogging and advising full time!”

WHAT INSPIRED AARON’S LOOK: “What makes a bomber a bomber? Most notably, the ribbed wrists and waist band. That’s why a baseball jacket and a leather jacket can both be ‘bombers’. Those embroidered “signature” jackets you saw all over the place this Summer? Yup. Those are bombers too. For today’s look, I paired AEO’s Active Flex Bomber Jacket with a twill shirt and ribbed turtleneck for some casual Fall layering. I’m obsessed with turtlenecks (in case you couldn’t tell from my Insta), and I took the styling up a notch by wearing it under my twill shirt. This only works if the turtleneck is thin.”

How To Style The Waxed Workwear Jacket With John Philp

Everyday #AEOSTYLE requires functional clothing that still looks and feels authentic to your unique look. When comfort & style collide, we end up with great pieces like the AEO Waxed Workwear Jacket in our closets  – this rugged and durable jacket is sure to become a staple in your wardrobe during colder temps thanks to a warm flannel lining. Menswear blogger & photographer John Phlip from The Risky Jackal wore the Waxed Workwear Jacket out & about this season. Check out John’s full look below, and if you want to see more of his past #AEOSTYLE give his post a look here.

Meet John: “I’m John Philp, a Chicago-based photographer, model and blogger interested in bringing you all things menswear, travel & more! At it’s core, Risky Jackal is an online extension of things that interest me the most: men’s style, travel, fitness, food + drink and music. It’s a little corner of the internet that can I can  call home for the time being. I’ve found the best way to grow as a photographer/blogger/human is to constantly expose myself to new people, foreign places and comically uncomfortable situations.”

What Inspired Saul’s Look: “The Waxed Workwear Jacket is a tough and versatile Jacket, and perfect for the upcoming fall & winter. The rugged waxed cotton is durable and will be able to take a beating in the Chicago winter! An added detail I love is the plaid flannel lining on the inside of the jacket – it’s so soft and makes the jacket that much warmer. The Washed Black jacket goes with almost everything in my closet, and will for sure be a staple this season. I styled it with black jeans, desert boots. Since the jacket is such a great insulating layer, a gray or navy sweater underneath keeps it clean & simple and provides enough warmth.”

How To Style The AEO 360 Extreme Flex Slim Straight Jean With J’waye Covington

We believe that you should have at least one great pair of denim in your closet to carry you throughout every season, no matter the weather – you know, that one pair of jeans that’s just right. More than ever, we appreciate denim that not only looks great but also feels great. We place a lot importance on being simultaneously comfortable and on-trend, and we have the denim to prove it. Menswear Instagrammer J’waye Covington tried out the AEO 360 Extreme Flex Slim Straight Jean (it moves with you and doesn’t lose it’s shape) & made the denim his own with a minimalist, edgy look that we totally want to try out this weekend.

Meet J’waye:
“Hey! I’m J’waye, but you can call me J. I’m a 21-year-old student living in the city of Charlotte. I’ve always had a love for photography and the idea of Men’s fashion, so I decided to combine the two – sharing my life, personal style, love for design and coffee on my Instagram.”

What Inspired J’waye Look:
“It’s always hard for me to find a pair of jeans that fit and feel comfortable when I’m wearing them. I’ve always supported American Eagle’s jeans, and once they released their Flex/Denim line, I was ecstatic. The new Flex gives me freedom to do any and everything, while keeping me looking stylish and feeling comfortable!

I decided to match my Extreme Flex Slim Straight denim with a basic white tee, black and white sneakers and a beanie. To add a little more edge to the look I took out my leather jacket, making this the best outfit to wear on the go while still looking cool and stylish!

Seasonally Inspired #AEOSTYLE: First Day Of Fall Outfit

It’s safe to say that Fall has become one of the most anticipated seasons of the year… and we don’t hate it. Aside from all the hype about pumpkin spice and changing leaves, Fall is a great season to push pause and refresh. It’s a season of change and a time to appreciate everything you have and can do. We’re ready for autumn, and we have the #AEOSTYLE to prove it. Check out our must-do’s for the season and, of course, what we’ll be wearing when Fall arrives on September 22.

WHAT  TO DO THIS SEASON

  • GET OUTSIDE: Make the most of mild temps and go for a hike to check out the Fall foliage.
  • TRY SOMETHING NEW: A food, an activity – anything! There’s never a bad time to take a chance.
  • REVAMP YOUR #AEOSTYLE: Clear out your closet and update your Fall look (hint: our looks below might help!).
  • SET SOME GOALS: Consciously choose to make a positive change this season.

WHAT TO WEAR ON THE FIRST DAY OF FALL

GUYS: Keep your look for the first day of Fall as chill as the weather. Layering is key this season, so mix colors, textures and styles for a cool, casual look. We took muted tones of green and orange and paired them back to one of our favorite colors this Fall, grey. Ground your look with neutrals in your denim & shoes – leather hi-top sneakers are durable and on-trend, perfect for an active outdoor season.

GIRLS: Laid-back #AEOSTYLE is the goal here, and you can achieve the look with simple layers inspired by the colors of the season. We love the bold color of a red tank, and the floral embroidery in the jacket we paired it with brings some life to this edgy look. Our outerwear of choice for Fall 2016 – the bomber jacket – is on top. Destructed hi-rise jeggings and hi-top shoes finish the outfit.
