Erin’s Outfit Of The Week: Winter Whites Are Coming!

Oh (cold) snap! There’s no escaping it: it’s November, temps are dropping and winter is coming… but so are winter whites! This week, Erin shows you how to transition into outfit whiteouts by mixing in subtle neutrals until winter is officially here.

Our Flowy Nightie was designed as sleepwear, but there’s no reason you can’t show it off and wear it out, too. Its v-neck silhouette is the best excuse to show a subtle pop of color with your lavender Lace Strappy Racerback Bralette underneath. Match with a Bikini Undie in the same shade for the prettiest pair.

Erin’s Outfit Of The Week: Winter Whites Are Coming!

To stay warm, layer with a taupe Bonfire Vest. We know we say it a lot, but we mean it. This soft knit blend is COZY! Then get even warmer with a Supersoft Beanie on top. On the bottom, keep the winter whites going with our plaid Boot Socks. Wear AEO’s Slouchy Tall Boots over them to bare a little leg but stay mostly covered for the season.

Seal your look with a Letter Pouch (online Thursday!) for a Very Aerie approach to winter whites. Cozy up, cuties!

How to Make Halloween Treats

In honor of National Candy Corn Day we asked Annie, the baker behind the yummy Bakin You Crazy Instagram account,  to show us how to whip together her favorite candy corn treat! Read on to learn how to whip up her sweet and spooky recipe.

Triple Chocolate Candy Corn Cookies

How to Make Halloween Treats

Yields 20-24 normal size cookies or 6-8 jumbo cookies

1 cup salted butter
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs
3 table spoons milk
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoons instant chocolate pudding mix
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk chocolate chips (plus more to place on top, optional)
1 cup white chocolate chips (plus more to place on top, optional)
1 cup candy corn (plus more to place on top, optional)

How to Make Halloween Treats

Instructions | Part 1

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave butter for 45 seconds or until completely melted.
  3. Add sugar to butter. Beat on low until smooth.
  4. Add vanilla, eggs and milk to butter and sugar mixture. Mix on low until thorough combined.
  5. In separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, pudding, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Slowly, pour flour mixture into butter mixture while beating on low.
  7. Add chocolate chips and mix. (DISCLAIMER: You can add candy corn to cookie dough now or directly after cookies are removed from oven. The latter prevents unpredictable cookie shapes due to melted candy corn.

How to Make Halloween Treats

How to Make Halloween Treats

Instructions | Part 2

  1. Place heaping tables spoons of dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. (DISCLAIMER: If candy corn was mixed into dough, make sure no candy corn is in direct contact with the baking sheet. This will result in deformed cookies. Instead, shape dough so candy corn is on top or inside the ball of cookie dough.)
  2. Bake for 8-10 minutes depending on oven. Cookies should look gooey and soft. Do not over bake!!
  3. For picture perfect cookies, additional chocolate chips and candy corn can be placed on warm cookies with a slight push.
  4. The cookies should remain soft and fudgy when cool… If they last that long!
  5. Voilà! Delicious Halloween treats!

Real Talk With Katie Berger, Swim Buyer

It may be getting colder outside, but our buyers are already thinking spring! Get REAL with Katie Berger, #AerieSWIM Buyer! Read on to learn more about how she helps to plan Aerie’s line each season, her forecast for spring swim and what #AerieREAL means to her.

Real Talk With Katie Berger, Swim Buyer

What are the responsibilities of a buyer?
A buyer is responsible for strategizing the number of styles we can have in the store and online, along with the types of silhouettes and fits we would like to offer. Buyers work hand-in-hand with a design team that is specific to swim (though they dabble in other areas as well), who designs into our style requests. We then collectively build an assortment that we believe our customer will have to have in her closet (or swim drawer!).

Buyers track the sales trends of the business from week-to-week (and on occasion, day-to-day) to give us insight for future deliveries – if the customer doesn’t love it today, will she love something similar in a few months? A lot of the job comes from instinct, and knowing what your sales history tells you along with new trends you see coming our way! This job uses both sides of the brain… and I LOVE it!

What trends are you forecasting for swim in ’16?
We are still in love with strappy swim, but we also LOVE the 70’s vibes in swim – ruffles and crochet, one-pieces, crops and teeny tiny bottoms. I want to wear a one-piece with AEO denim shorts, head to the beach, and be ready for dinner in a snap!

We can’t WAIT for swim! Let’s talk about our current collection…what’s your favorite item for Holiday?
I love the fun accessories, including our gifting ‘grab and go’ collection! Great for gifting your friends, sisters or yourself! But really the bralettes are GORGEOUS. The laces are so feminine and the stylings are so great for any day of the week. I already bought 5 of them! And wait until you see the PJ pants…they are so cozy and cute! My Christmas morning look = aerie PJ’s.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?
Neither?! I can get up consistently early on the weekends, but why can’t I get up during the week? I could say I’m definitely a napper!

What is your favorite city that you’ve either traveled to or want to travel to?
In February I went to Tulum in Mexico, and I have to say it is easily my favorite place I’ve ever been. The relaxed, non-commercial vibe is perfect for a getaway in the sunshine. We stayed at the Hotel Mezzanine, where they brought you coffee to your door every morning, and you could take the basket out to a hammock and enjoy your coffee while looking at the ocean. I have never been so relaxed in my life! I loved it so much, I’m going back in December. Next stop, I’m thinking Iceland! Have you seen the pictures of that island? It looks so beautiful.

We’re so jealous! That sounds amazing. What’s 1 item you can’t live without?
Chapstick (and Spotify). Oh, and actually a hair tie. Yep, definitely a hair tie too.

What does #AerieREAL mean to you?
I think this can mean so many different things to different girls. For me it means being and loving yourself and not apologizing for it. We recently talked as a buying team about how girls apologize constantly when speaking their minds, and I think that’s part of what this is about – learning how to stop apologizing for who you are or what you think and embracing and owning it!

We love that! Thank you Katie for sitting down with us!

Real Talk With Heather Durcho

Ready for some serious inspiration? Get REAL with Heather Durcho, AEO’s Front Desk Receptionist. She fearlessly volunteered to share her story with us as we honor breast cancer awareness this month, and we can’t thank her enough! Read on to learn more about the shining face we see every day in our Pittsburgh office.

Real Talk With Heather Durcho

Hi, Heather! Thanks for chatting with us. Can you give us a brief intro to what you do here at AEO?
I am the front desk Receptionist. I do a little bit of everything. Answer phones, check in guests, and help out with some HR responsibilities. I think I may have one of the best positions in the office because I get to chat with so many different people during the day. There is never a dull moment up here at the front desk. I have been working here since March of this year and absolutely LOVE it!

Do you have a favorite Aerie item?
My favorite go-to Aerie items are definitely the cardigans and dusters. They are so comfy! I love that they are so versatile. I can wear one when I’m just lounging around the house. I can throw one on with a pair of jeans and head out to run some errands. Or I can even dress one up by adding a statement necklace and a cute pair of boots. Confession, I wore my favorite duster to work the other day and then slept in it that night! They are that cozy!

Real Talk With Heather Durcho

If girls want to see more of your style…where should they find you on Instagram?
My Instagram handle is @heddadurka.

What makes you #AerieREAL?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer (Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma) in March of this year. The first question I had for my doctor was, “Am I going to lose my hair?” Within just a couple weeks after my first chemotherapy treatment, it was falling out in clumps. I remember one day I went to readjust my ponytail, and when I took out my hair tie, I was literally holding my entire ponytail in my hand. I decided enough was enough and shaved my head that same day. I was just coming to a point in my life where I was really starting to love and appreciate my body, flaws and all. Then cancer swooped in changed everything. My hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes fell out. I became bloated and puffy from some of the chemotherapy drugs they gave me. I didn’t look like myself at all. Literally the only thing that did not change was who I was inside, and that is what I decided to hold on to. I was still the same person I have always been, it was just the outside that was different. It took me a little while but once I finally came to that realization, I felt so much better about everything that was going on. Learning that I am just as beautiful on the outside as I am on the inside is what makes me #AerieREAL.

Amazing. Thank you SO much for sharing. Now onto a lighter note. What book did you least read?
I am addicted to reading! My kindle goes with me everywhere. The last book I read was “Who Do You Love” by Jennifer Weiner. If you haven’t read it yet then go do it right now!

Do you have any favorite fall recipes
One of my favorite things to do in the fall is cook on our charcoal grill. I don’t have any specific recipes, per se. I just love being outside in the crisp fall air, watching the leaves change and enjoying a delicious home cooked meal. However, this would not be a proper interview without me expressing my deep and undying love for a large, steaming bowl of mac and cheese!

Describe your personal style in 3 words:
Classic, comfortable, girly.

Real Talk With Heather Durcho

What does #AerieREAL mean to you?
I’m sure being #AerieREAL means something different to everyone. To me, being #AerieREAL is taking what I have learned about myself over the past few months and helping others feel the exact same way. We are all beautiful!

Thank you Heather!
