Music Monday: Aerie’s Fall Playlist

Much to our chagrin, summer is exiting and fall has officially arrived. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop bumping all of the party bangers and sexy R&B cuts that we’ve been loving year round. So, with our fall playlist, we’re featuring the likes of Jhene Aiko, Jessie J. and the adorable Ariana Grande. But we’re also throwing it back to our fave Baby Girl, Aaliyah with her anthem, “Back & Forth”. Along with what we’ve decided is our new anthem, Meghan Trainor’s “All About that Bass.” So addicting that one.

Leave your troubles behind and groove to these empowering jams with us!

Follow Her Friday: Colbie Callait

Earlier this month, Colbie Callait released a video that made us do a double take.  The song is called “Try” and it shows a cast of beautiful women, Colbie included, going from full makeup and fake lashes to their fresh-faced, natural selves.

Inspiring, to say the least, “Try,” is Colbie’s statement on how women shouldn’t have to “try so hard.” It was actually born out of her own frustration when her label told her that her music needed to change. After being pressured to be more like the pop stars that have set the standard – you know what we’re talking about – Colbie decided to scrap her new album and write a completely new one. The result was Gypsy Heart Side A, an EP with a lot of honesty, strength and so much inspiration.

We loved Colbie’s message and shared it as our Wednesday Wisdom last week! Watch the video “Try” below and be sure to check out her new EP available for download here!

Music Monday: Aerie’s Midsummer Playlist

It feels like just yesterday that we were longing for the heat, sun and summer jams. Now it’s almost the middle of the season! Don’t let those pool parties slip away without having the perfect soundtrack to the splashes.

With this selection of tunes, we mixed up fresh new sounds with a few throwbacks for good measure. Get to know some of our favorite power ladies including Charlie XCX with her song “Boom Clap”; Ellie Goulding with “Goodness Gracious” off her hit record Halcyon Days; and “On a Roll” from the dance pop duo, Icona Pop. Also, take note of newcomer, Elle Eyre. We’ve had our eyes, ahem, ears on her for awhile. Trust, her song “Deeper” is an earworm.

We also reached as far back as 1990 to bring you Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison,” ‘cause, let’s face it, that song is timeless. And we jumped forward a whole decade to remember how cool the Dandy Warhols were (and still are) with their song “Bohemian Like You.” Then topped off our trip down memory lane with AlunaGeorge’s cover of “This is How We Do It”.

Go ahead. Slip into your bikini, toss on those sunnies and push play! Listen to our Midsummer Playlist on Spotify here.
