How To Style The Vintage Hi-Rise Jean With Blake Von D

Things we’re still obsessed with: the Vintage Hi-Rise Jean. Since we last styled this denim fit, the Vintage Hi-Rise Jean has made its way to an even deeper place in our heart as we’re discovering new washes & ways to wear them. This month, two-tone denim is everywhere, and we’re loving it in this straight-leg, cropped look. With just enough of a 90s vibe, this jean is super versatile and can be dressed up for a night out with friends or down for weekend hangouts. Blake, the blogger behind Blake Von D, is showing you how to master the tricky two-tone look below.

Meet Blake:
Blake is a lawyer and digital influencer. It was during this time that she really began to make a name for herself in the world of blogging, all while earning a Master’s Degree from NYU. Not one to settle, in 2012, she decided to pursue her life long dream of becoming an attorney and enrolled in law school at Tulane University.

Throughout all of her academic endeavors, I have continued to use her influence as a blogger to champion the causes most near to her heart — specifically the empowering of women in all their various walks of life and the celebration of women of color across all professions, but especially in the field of fashion.”

What Inspired Blake’s Look:
“When it comes to denim, you can never have enough pairs of comfortable jeans. That said, it doesn’t mean they all have to look same. It’s okay to add a little variety and interest. Enter these two-toned vintage hi-rise jeans!

They’re a really fun pair of jeans and they add a bit of visual detail to any outfit. I also love that they’re cropped at the ankle. (That’s kind of my thing these days with denim.) The fraying is a nice detail as well.

I paired them with a simple black turtleneck, sneakers, shades and a color-blocked coat. It’s casual but still makes a statement. I wore this look shopping, and I had so many sales associates stop and compliment me. With all of the colors and lines, your eyes aren’t really sure where to go first. But you can be sure that wherever they land, you’re going to like what you see.”

More than ever, we appreciate denim that not only looks great but also feels great. We place a lot importance on being simultaneously comfortable and on-trend, and we have the denim to prove it. Menswear Instagrammer J’waye Covington tried out the AEO 360 Extreme Flex Slim Straight Jean (it moves with you and doesn’t lose it’s shape) & made the denim his own with a minimalist, edgy look that we totally want to try out this weekend.

Meet J’waye:
“Hey! I’m J’waye, but you can call me J. I’m a 21-year-old student living in the city of Charlotte. I’ve always had a love for photography and the idea of Men’s fashion, so I decided to combine the two – sharing my life, personal style, love for design and coffee on my Instagram.”

What Inspired J’waye Look:
“It’s always hard for me to find a pair of jeans that fit and feel comfortable when I’m wearing them. I’ve always supported American Eagle’s jeans, and once they released their Flex/Denim line, I was ecstatic. The new Flex gives me freedom to do any and everything, while keeping me looking stylish and feeling comfortable!

I decided to match my Extreme Flex Slim Straight denim with a basic white tee, black and white sneakers and a beanie. To add a little more edge to the look I took out my leather jacket, making this the best outfit to wear on the go while still looking cool and stylish!

Break out your chunky knits, turtlenecks and oversized cardis, because it’s officially sweater weather. Early Fall is an opportune time to play with different ways to style sweaters, thanks to up-and-down temps. Blogger Sage Coralli from So Sage Blog took one of our softest-ever sweaters from the latest collection and made trend-right, open-stitch top the statement piece of her monochrome look. Check out Sage’s outfit below featuring the the AEO Ahhhmazingly Soft Mock Neck Sweater & get some Fall-ready styling tips to for the Mock Neck Sweater.

So Sage Blog styles the Ahhhmazingly Soft Mock Neck Sweater

Meet Sage:
So Sage Blog is a culmination of Sage’s vision, dreams, aspirations, fears, insecurities, risks and above all, her passions.  She believes that a lack of passion is fatal. Similar to my style, she make life choices based on pure emotion. Am she impulsive?  Absolutely.  Spontaneous? 100%. Unpredictable, free spirited, border-line crazy? This is part of who she is, who she’ll always be. And quite frankly, if you ask anyone that knows her… that’s ‘So Sage.’

Sage does’t use definitive words for describing her style because the way she dresses is constantly evolving and typically a reflection of how she feels at that moment in time. Her go-to look? A luxury staple paired with accessible finds, but above all else..comfort. Sage enjoys challenging and questioning the rules of fashion because, she’s just not a rule following type of girl. Sage hopes to in some way inspire you to live on the edge, try to new trends, break the rules, live a little, and feel that you too can express yourself through the clothes you wear.”

What Inspired Sage’s Look:
“If there’s something I’ve learned to fully embraced in my closet, it’s definitely sweaters. For the longest time I didn’t like wearing sweaters because I thought they were all itchy and too bulky/thick. I would usually opt for a coat & multiple layers to keep warm in the past, but after building up a collection over the last few years, I have a nice little sweater section in my closet. I have a decent mix of both high and low end sweaters, but regardless of the cost there’s something so chic & classic about a sweater. I particularly love the mock neck sweater because I think it adds such a chic flare to any look and the hair tuck is an added bonus.

I recently got this soft mock neck sweater, and I’m obsessed. I love that this one is open knit so that you have breathing room…and if your temperatures are anything like they are still here in Texas, you would appreciate too. This color gray is so versatile and can be worn with practically anything. Typically I would pair a mock neck sweater with some skinny jeans & heels/booties or boyfriend jeans & sneakers like I did in this past post. Since Texas can’t decide if it’s Summer or Fall yet, I threw it over my t-shirt dress before dinner for the cooler evening and went for an all-gray-everything look.”

How To Style The Hi-Rise Kick Crop Jean with FOREVERVANNY

Cropped denim is the fit you need in your closet right now. Among other classic 90s trends, we’re excited to style the crop jean this season. Updated styles like the Vintage Hi-Rise and Jegging Ankle bring the crop trend into the new millennium, and one of the most exciting fits right now is an new take on the pedal pusher – but this isn’t the jean you remember, believe us! A longer length and a more subtle flare at the hem give you the Kick Crop Jean. Blogger Van Le from FOREVERVANNY styled the Denim X Hi-Rise Kick Crop. Check out Vanny’s #AEOSTYLE below, and if you love her look, be sure to check out her previous post on the blog!

Forever Vanny styles the Hi-Rise Kick Crop Jean

Meet Vanny:
FOREVERVANNY was created in 2013 by Van Le as an outlet to document her personal style, photography, and fashion inspirations. Over the years, the site has evolved to be a collection of fashion photographs personally styled and shot under the creative direction of Van Le. Based in New York, FOREVERVANNY‘s style is as diverse as the people who roam this city. Chic, polished, and a little bit of contrast between delicate details and tomboy-ish vibe is what she aims to show. Beyond fashion, FOREVERVANNY seeks to find other forms of inspirations through different cultures and travel adventures with photo-diaries and thoughtful reflections of her experiences.”

How To Get Vanny’s Look:
Play with lengths for a look that stands out. The Kick Crop Jean can be intimidating to style because of its unique silhouette, so to contrast the short hem, Van paired the denim with a long bell sleeve shirt that nearly covers her hand. We love the way the bell of the sleeves and the wide bottom of the crop jeans complement each other and pull the entire look together. Make sure to choose an ankle boot that shows a bit of skin between the bottom of the jean and the top of the shoe so that your legs look longer, not shorter.
