AEO Friends & Family: Roberto C., Senior VP of Merchandising & Operations AE.com

Meet Roberto C., Senior VP of Merchandising & Operations AE.com. Roberto oversees online merchandising and operations on AE.com for both the American Eagle Outfitters and Aerie brands. Read on to learn more about Roberto!

How did you get your start at AEO?

I had just sold my share of a private business and was looking for a new challenge when I got a call from some old work friends who were at AEO. I started out as an Assistant Buyer in Women’s Knits as I did not have any product development experience. From there I moved on to be the Associate Buyer of Women’s Jeans, Pants, Shorts and Shirts.

Have you always had an interest in fashion?

Dressing well was something my dad passed on to me.  My job each week was to shine his shoes, which always stuck with me. Still to this day, I always notice what shoes someone is wearing.

Where do you find your inspiration for trends or the next big product?

My inspiration comes a bit from everywhere: the street, the runway, music and art. The challenging part is thinking about how to make a trend relevant for our customer and make it feel like our brand.

What is your favorite AEO Jeans fit?

Skinny or Slim Straight. And our new premium jeans are amazing!

You can often be found at concerts and shows. What bands or artists have you had on repeat lately?

I see live music as often as I can. A few favorites recently are Citizen Cope, Stars, and I am heading to City and Color soon.

Besides AEO and fashion, what are your other passions or hobbies?

Soccer: I still try to get out at least once a week to knock it around.

Travel: I try to experience as many places as I can with my family.

Food: I try to hit a new restaurant at least once a month.

What’s next on your life “to do” list?

Learn to play piano (I’ve always wanted to, but never had the patience).

Give more of my time to those in need. Find a way to help out someone in a small way.

Open a small hotel in a beach town off the beaten path.
