To celebrate the launch of American Eagle Outfitters’ Rock Your Walk, celebrities, bloggers, and fashion editors all convened at our Times Square store on July 30th to watch the debut video. In attendance was blogger/model, Christina Caradona writer of one of our favorite blogs, Trop Rouge. She was sweet enough to sit down for an exclusive interview for our blog!
What are your favorite American Eagle pieces from the new Back to School collection?
I love the Faux Washed Leather Sleeved Denim Jacket and the Striped Fit & Flare Dress. I’m a true sucker for stripes—I think it must be the French in me! The Skinny Crop Jean in black will always be one of my staples. Pair them with red flats and a plain white tee, and you’re good to go!
We shot our Back to School campaign in New York City, where you are based. Would you say the city influences your personal style? If so, how?
New York City definitely has a major influence on my style, from the music to the food to the museums to the street art. I tend to dress how I feel that day: New York is a city where you can actually tell someone’s mood just by their clothes, which I find to be a really unique quality. For example, when I’m feeling happy and flirty I tend to dress girly, and when I’m having a bad day or it’s raining outside, I find I wear darker colors. When I’m getting ready to go out, whatever music is playing in my room will also influence my dressing!

How did you start your fashion blog, Trop Rouge? What tips do you have for aspiring fashion bloggers?
I started Trop Rouge as a fun hobby. My brother came up with the title, teasing “just name it Trop Rouge—no one’s going to read it anyways!” I had no clue what a blog even was at that point, but I thought it would be a great way for me to show my friends back in France what I was up to in New York.
One of the best tips I’ve ever been given was to do what you love for you. When you start a blog, make sure you’re doing it because you believe in what you’re expressing and sharing with others. Don’t try to be different just to be different; others know when it’s insincere, and once you brand yourself, it’s hard to turn back. Make a blog that you yourself would be interested in reading.
Was there a breakthrough moment for your blog that helped you gain a larger readership very quickly? Was it a partnership with a brand, a mention on another blog, or something else similar?
I’d like to think that my blog gradually climbed the ladder on its own, but doing the Kmart “Money Can’t Buy Style” campaign definitely helped me gain recognition in the blogging world. I was a model and an aspiring actress before I started blogging, and now I juggle all three: I’m currently playing the part of Lucy Condon on the Nickelodeon show Alien Dawn. Trop Rouge definitely helped advance my modeling career, but I can proudly say I got the part of Lucy all on my own.
What trends would you love to see happen in fashion for Fall or Winter?
I’d love to see the overalls trend continue, and I hope flannels come back around for Fall style!
