Aerie Friends & Family: Julie W. Senior Graphic Designer

Meet Julie W., one of aerie’s fabulous graphic designers. You can find Julie’s work hitting your home mailbox every month or stop by your local Aerie store and scope out the windows & in store marketing. Read on to learn more about Julie and how she found her way to Aerie.

How did you get your start with Aerie?

I actually started as a visual lab associate almost 6 years ago, then worked in the visual production area for 6 months. Shortly after I moved over and worked as a contracter for AE Marketing for awhile then was hired on full-time. I started helping out the Aerie team here and there then gradually moved into a permanent position for Aerie.

Who or what has been the most important influence in your life?

My grandparents. Sadly, they are no longer around but growing up I always admired the hard work and positive attitude they had in life. They survived World War 2 and the great depression together. They were married for over 50 years and were still so in love like they had just met. I would also have to say my husband. We have been married almost 2 years and he teaches me on a daily basis how to be patient and enjoy life for what it is. He looks at the positive side of things and keeps me grounded.

What songs are playing on your iPod?

Don’t judge me but Ke$ha. I started watching her new show “My Crazy BeautifulLife” on MTV and I have come to like & respect her as a person. She has always written her own music and strives to be real. She doesn’t want to be like everyone else. I just like her outlook on life. Other than that I enjoy listening to any kind of dub step music. Especially at work, it keeps me energized thoughout the day.

How did you discover your passion?

I have always been attracted to the “art world” since a young child. My passion started with photography. I always had a camera in my hand no matter where I was. I went to school in NY for Fine Arts then continued my passion at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to be a graphic designer. I just feel like I am at my best when the creative juices are flowing.

What is next on your “To Do In Life” list?

This year my husband and I are taking a few trips. The biggest is to Punta Cana to see one of my life long friends get married. We want to travel as much as possible before starting a family in the next few years. The goals are to visit as many new places as possible and try new foods from those places. We are both foodies.

How would you describe your style?

I don’t think I have a specific style per say. I like a lot of “rocker” looking things. My favorite colors to wear are black, white and gray, but I love the unexcited pop. I try to pair things with either a little bling or just a hint of a bright florescent color.

Favorite Aerie bra?

Any kind of multi-way bra. I love to wear a lot of racerback tanks and shirts that I don’t always want to show my straps so a multi-way bra is perfect for that. I also do love our concert bras we had last Summer. Love the bright colors and like that the straps are meant to be seen.

How does your work influence your style?

Constantly being in a creative world for sure influences my style. From doing research for an upcoming season to just designing a direct mailer, there is inspiration everywhere.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be having the ability to work from home and still work as a designer. I love the idea of being able to raise a family and actually be home to do so. I would love to live somewhere tropical because I hate hate hate the snow, unless it’s Christmas. But, after that it can take a hike. 🙂

What is your favorite spot in NYC?

I have only been to NYC a handful of times but one place that sticks out would be Beauty & Essex. Hands down the best food I have ever had, and had an amazing experience with the people I was with.
