Project Live Your Life: Aly, Artist

Project Live Your Life is in full gear! Your personal style inspires us, and we’re sharing one of our favorite entries so far – Aly, an artist from Mexico, Missouri.

Aly describes herself as an artist and adventurer. When she isn’t creating art, she loves traveling and being outside. “Nature and traveling inspires me the most. I love feeling like a new person in a strange city, and wildlife/nature simply puts me at ease.”

Check out some of her charcoal drawings below.

“Simple is what I always go for. Dresses are pretty much all I ever wear and when it’s warm enough, I go without shoes as often as I can!”

AEO x SCA: Alternative Spring Break 2013

AEO x SCA: Alternative Spring Break 2013

Introducing Earth-savers Justin, Chris, and Kenneth. These three guys decided to spend their spring breaks serving the planet with the Student Conservation Association as part of Alternative Spring Break sponsored by American Eagle Outfitters. Last week, they blogged about their service experience from on location in Big Cypress National Preserve, a freshwater swampland neighboring the Everglades in southern Florida. As the presenting sponsor of SCA’s Alternative Spring Break, we’re proud to present their stories here.

Want to learn how you can serve the planet with SCA? Check out their website: www.thesca.org.

Student Conservation Association and American Eagle Outfitters Alternative Spring Break 2013

Justin, ASB participant from Florida

“ASB Big Cypress 2013 will be my third alternative spring break with the Student Conservation Association (I am fairly certain that this must be some kind of record). I previously served as an ASB crew member at Grand Canyon National Park in 2010 and at Joshua Tree National Park just last year. Each of the experiences has been unique and equally exciting. Coming from the past two trips in the desert, I am greatly looking forward to the humid weather awaiting us in Florida this coming week.” Read the rest of Justin’s posts on SCA’s “Follow Me” blog.

Chris, ASB participant from Ohio.

“Wrapping up the first full day of ASB with the Student Conservation Association has been a blast! Here is a quick round up of my past 24 hrs: Flew into Ft. Lauderdale around 11:30am yesterday (2nd to arrive!), met some other crew members who were actually on my flight, Erica & Alex, who are from Michigan, met one of the crew leaders, Elliot, then met the rest of the crew/project leaders, Toby & Tim. We shuttled directly to our resting groups in Collire-Seminole State Park, where we will be spending our entire week camping out under the stars. When others started to arrive we set up our tents and dove right into our first few games, ate dinner, and sooner than we knew it, we were resting our heads on the ground, shivering in nighttime temperatures that turned out to be somewhere in the high 30s-low 40s. Pretty cold for spring break in Southern Florida, right?” Read the rest of Chris’s posts on SCA’s “Follow Me” blog.

Kenneth, ASB participant from Maryland.

“Our first stop was the Big Cypress Visitors Center where we were welcomed by the Acting Superintendent of Big Cypress National Preserve. I was surprised to see manatees that swim into the canal to escape the cold of the ocean. We also met with who they call the Red Cockaded Woodpecker expert, Ross Scott, who told us a little bit about the work we will be doing in order to help the woodpeckers.” Read the rest of Kenneth’s posts on SCA’s “Follow Me” blog.

Meet the Cast: Ben

Meet the Cast: Ben

Meet Ben, a hip hop dancer from Los Angeles, California. Ben originally went to school for Finance, but when he graduated decided to follow his real passion of dancing and moved to LA. He waited tables until a year ago when an open casting call changed his life and he was picked out of over 500 people.

It’s no surprise that Ben’s favorite type of music is hip-hop. He was recently in CoCo Jones‘ video ‘Holla at the DJ‘ and Rihanna’s latest album, ‘Unapologetic‘, is on repeat on his iPod. “Music makes me feel empowered,” he said. Ben’s favorite dance move is the head slide (we had to ask!) and Michael Jackson‘s ‘Billy Jean‘ always gets him dancing.

Ben describes his personal style as hipster meets hip-hop. “I think it mirrors my personality – mellow on the outside with a little kick”. Ben wears his AE Shorts longer when he is headed to dance class or shorter and rolled when he is relaxing. His favorite accessories are hats… and of course his headphones!

Check out Ben’s Pinterest Board to learn more about him and see his favorite AE styles.

Meet the Cast: Gabby

Meet the Cast: Gabby

Meet Gabby, an art student from Carmichael, CA. Gabby loves anything to do with being creative, from art to photography to blogging. Her favorite creative outlet is her Tumblr. Gabby thinks she is best at being observant and noticing little details, which we think is why she is always up on the latest fashion trends!

Her favorite type of music is rap/hip-hop and right now her favorite album is  ‘Long Live A$AP‘ by A$AP Rocky. Any good upbeat rap song or anything by Chris Brown gets Gabby dancing. The best concerts she has ever been to are Chris Brown and Drake.

Gabby’s style inspirations as of late have been Rihanna and Kim Kardashian because she has the same edgy style as them. She also loves Swedish fashion blogger Lisa Olsson. Gabby takes cues from her style inspirations and puts her own spin on their looks with her military boots or by adding watches, rings, and earrings. Her favorite styles of AE Shorts are rolled, high-waisted, and shorties.

Check out Gabby’s Pinterest Board to see more of her favorite things, inspirations, and the AE styles she loves.
