Meet the People: Angel

Meet the People: Angel

Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling each cast member from the Live Your Life campaign. The blog posts were written & photos were captured by Leanne F., who traveled with the crew during the shoot to document the experience.

Angel poses for her close-up.

Angel is a big ball of energy, and her energy is totally contagious. From the minute we arrived at the recording studio to the second we left she was so fun to be around. Angel just finished recording her third album and she let us have a sneak peak at it while she was being photographed. Let’s just say that every one of us had her song stuck in our head. As we shot her in her studio she kept singing for us, and that girl can SING! And here’s something else awesome . . .that girl can rap too! Angel rapped every word to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Luckily Johnny, our hair and makeup guy, doesn’t get mad easily because by the end of the song Angel needed to start over on her hair and makeup from sweating after her rap session. Now that is a fun girl!

Angel has her make-up touched up during her photo shoot.

Our gracious hosts at the recording studio, Evan and Brie, were very welcoming to the entire crew. Evan is a successful writer and musician who often works with Avril Lavigne. Their studio, which is a part of their beautiful home, has a strict ‘no shoe’ policy and padding around in our borrowed slippers made us feel cozy and comfortable. The atmosphere combined with Angel’s contagious energy made us feel like a group of crazy friends hanging out and having a great day. And that is exactly what we did, had a really fun day!

Meet the People: Chase

Meet the People: Chase

Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling each cast member from the Live Your Life campaign. The blog posts were written & photos were captured by Leanne F., who traveled with the crew during the shoot to document the experience.

Chase’s backyard is the beach.

Starting your day on the ocean in Newport Beach isn’t that bad! Chase wakes up every day to the waves, sand, and sun. Well… usually! This morning Chase woke up at Coachella Music Festival at 4 a.m. and drove back home to meet us! For a boy with no sleep you couldn’t tell! (He said the festival was amazing!)

Chase gets ready to show off his surfing skills.

Chase’s girlfriend, Kelsey, stopped by and she was so cute that we put her in cute AE outfits and “forced her” to get in the pictures with Chase. But of course, she was up for it! Who wouldn’t want hair and makeup, a stylist, and cute pictures with their boyfriend? Kelsey and Chase looked adorable together.

Kelsey was excited for the chance to take photos with Chase.

Chase showed off his surf skills for us right in his backyard.  Our photographer put his own wetsuit on and went right in the water to catch the action. We all watched from the safety of the beach, but I secretly wished I was in there with them. I opted to stay dry, but there is something really awesome about watching surfing.  We all pretended we lived in Chase’s house for the day-full wall of windows to the ocean and sunshine shining in. In fact, we felt so at home that we took a little time to get some R&R and lay on his deck in the sunshine. A girl could get used to this life.

Meet the People: Jasmine

Because Jasmine is a fashion editor, her Chelsea Place apartment was as cute and fun as you would expect.

She was a great hostess and welcomed us into her home with fresh bagels and hot coffee. As I started walking around, I noticed all of her fun books, great photography, and of course, abundance of amazing clothes. Jasmine has a closet that every girl would envy. Her closet is a perfect representation of her personality, colorful and tons of fun.

Jasmine let us take over her apartment, including her balcony, to set up for the shoot: AE clothes all over her bed, us rooting through her closet looking at all of her cute clothes and all the photo equipment strewn all over the family room. She was very laid back and didn’t seem to mind one bit.

After our first shot in front of her closet, we headed out to the streets of New York City. Jasmine wasn’t shy at all. She didn’t seem to notice or mind people on the street straining to see who was getting their picture taken. She was just running around looking cute and being herself. From her experience behind the camera, Jasmine said she knew what we needed to get the shot  and you could definitely tell. She was a total natural and the camera loved her.

Employee Profiles: AE.com Creative Director, Brandon A.

Brandon A., Creative Director for AE, manages all of the teams who work on creative assets for AE.com. We sat down with him to talk about his path from intern to Creative Director, what he’s most excited about for Back to School and more.

What is your background?

I went to school for graphic design & communications at LaRoche, it’s a small private school in the North Hills.

How did you get your start at AE?

I knew an intern here and he got me an internship. I was hired full time right when I graduated as a graphic designer in 2004 and I’ve been here ever since. I was a graphic designer, than senior designer, then art director, then senior art director and now creative director.

Right now I manage all of the teams that own all the creative for the website for both AE and Aerie – basically, I’m hanging out, shooting a nerf gun, riding a scooter, having fun.

What are your favorite projects that you have worked on at AE?

The launch of the Times Square billboard was pretty cool. There’s so many, it’s like a blur.

What would you tell yourself at age 18 to help get into a creative role? What are your favorite parts of your job?

That I can show up every day in jeans and a t-shirt and work with cool people and do what I like.

I would tell him that he needs to be passionate about what he does and be honest. It needs to be a little piece of you that you can’t turn off. It’s not 9-5. Every little piece of you needs to be about design.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Everywhere.

What are you most excited for with the BTS campaign?

We did this casting page that has bios of every kid. I’m pretty pumped about that. I’m also excited about the contest letting the customers take over our brand.

Do you have any special interests or hobbies?

I like to cook. Everything is better when it is cooked on an open flame.

What are your favorite places in Pittsburgh?

PNC Park, there’s a little shaved ice shop called Yia Yia’s Ice on the North Side (you get shaved ice for a quarter), and the Strip District.

Brandon and his family at Yia Yia’s

You’re a new dad. Tell us about your daughter.

She’s radical. She’s the coolest little person ever. She makes everything better. Everything that used to be a priority is not, in a good way. And she laughs when she farts
